Our contest entries always let our designers’ creative energy shine; this particular contest is one of the best examples of this truth.
Sea Gypsy Rentals, which rents vacation homes to tourists on the Oregon coast, got some of the most creative and exciting entries we’ve seen for their design contest. We saw some fantastic illustrations in a variety of styles, which we will highlight below.
What They Needed
This condo rental company needed a poster designed with a sandy pun based on the popular space western TV show “The Mandalorian.” They wanted to emphasize the beach on the Oregon coast, so it had to have seascapes but no tropical themes. The winning poster will be displayed in one of their condos along the coast. It was important to the company that their logo featured prominently in the design.
Do you think you could create a winning design based on these specifications? Take a look at what our talented creatives did with their instructions below.
The Entries

This entry by creative designer visitrox features an entrancing figure, a combination of a space pirate and an imposing sea god, on rocky shores that could easily be found along the Oregon coastline.
It prominently features the company logo at the top of the poster and balances its light and dark blues with the sea, sky, and shore. A full moon perches over the “Sandalorian’s” shoulder.
The company said they really liked the design and hoped the designer would compete in future contests for their themed condos.

This entry has a more cartoony design, with a crustacean guardian protecting an adorable green baby octopus. A ship looms offshore, calling back to the famous Fett spaceship in the TV show.
The logo is on the bottom left of the poster. The client said they liked this poster but preferred a later version by the artist.

This poster features a knight in a dark suit and tattered cape, holding a greenish bundle with one arm and pointing a revolver with the other. A red sky, teal sea, and tan sand combine for a vibrant background. The SeaGypsy Rentals logo is carved out of the bottom right of the poster.

#3127172 by Brick_Bags
This entry from creative Brick_Bags is similar to the previous entry but features a changed title text, a mellower sky, and a more prominent business logo.
The client thanked the designer for their changes to the design and invited them to compete again in future design contests.

This poster featured a unique-looking warrior with a seashell-inspired helmet. The warrior strolls up the beach with a baby seal protected in a pouch and a mean-looking weapon slung over the other shoulder. The wind rows the sand, the waves are choppy, and the sky has the yellowish tint of late afternoon.

This poster submission by the same artist features the aforementioned sea warrior, this time with a more subdued background. A frame around the illustration gives it a worn and frayed appearance.

This additional submission by davitiart features a blue octopus and a more curving coastline, with the client’s logo emblazoned across the sails of a distant ship.
The website is also more prominently featured at the bottom of the poster.

Brick_bags also submitted this dynamic illustration of an anime-style warrior kicking toward the viewpoint of the poster, wearing a swirling green suit.
The background features a deep scarlet sky and a sun setting over a blue ocean.

This dramatic poster in a cartoon style features a walrus warrior and their turtle companion standing on a rocky ledge, backlit by the moon. The client logo is featured at the bottom of the poster.
The Winner

This illustrated poster features a pirate wearing a very Fett-inspired face mask. The pirate is holding an adorable greenish seal and strolling along the beach.
The background is a soft orange fading into a black night sky, and the blue-focused client logo contrasts nicely with the orange of the rocky sand. The client said Exvy perfectly incorporated its logo and website into the poster.
The client received a total of 17 entries, and after voting on them, they selected the above poster as the winner for this contest, awarding Exvy a $150 prize. The poster will be displayed at one of their themed condos, a one-bedroom, two-bath condo on the second floor of the Sea Gypsy Hotel.
Unlike the other logos, this design featured a cohesive color story and a consistent art style. It also centered and featured the logo exactly as the client requested in the design brief. Congrats to Exvy and to the runners-up! The client is planning to commission posters for several more condos and looks forward to the future work of Hatchwise’s creative designers.
