Very clearly the Hatchwise designers that have gone to the trouble of hunting down our website or going to our LinkedIn page, because they’re adding things to the logo that I didn’t put in the contest — they found it. It’s very clear that there are people and designers who are taking it seriously and putting in the work.

Common questions
What is the difference between a mascot and a logo?
A logo is a mark that has to work small and stay consistent. A mascot is a character with personality that can be posed and reused, which is why mascot contests draw illustrators and cost more than an entry level logo contest.
How much does a mascot contest cost?
Character and mascot packages start at $179. The $49 listing fee is included in the package price and the rest is the prize paid to the winning illustrator.
What should the brief say?
Who the character is, the personality, the audience, whether it must work in a single color, and where it will appear. References to characters you admire are useful, as long as the result must be original.
Can I get extra poses or expressions?
Yes. Additional designs are available at $100 each from the winning illustrator after the award, which is the normal way to build a small pose library.
Do I own the character?
Yes. Full commercial rights transfer to you when you award, including the right to use the character on merchandise and in advertising.
How a character and mascot design contest works
A mascot design contest gets you an original character that can carry your brand across packaging, apparel, signage and social. Illustrators submit complete character concepts against your brief, and packages start at $179 with the $49 listing fee included.
A character is not a logo
A logo has to survive being tiny and stay identical everywhere. A mascot has personality, poses and expressions, and lives at larger sizes. That is why mascot contests attract illustrators and start higher than an entry level logo contest, and why briefs should describe a personality rather than a shape.
Plan the poses you will need
Award one character, then extend it. Additional poses, expressions and single color versions are available at $100 each from the winning illustrator after the award, which is how most buyers build a small library without briefing a second contest.
Files, rights and payment
On award you receive the layered source file plus JPG, PNG, TIFF, EPS and PDF, and full commercial rights transfer to you. Designers are paid the prize on the 1st and the 14th of each month via PayPal. Additional pieces are available at $100 each from the winning designer after the award.
Timing, upgrades and the guarantee
Award at any time while the contest is running: the 10 day window is the guaranteed period for entries, not a wait. A 48 Hour Rush speeds entries up, blind and private options limit who sees what, and extensions cost a small fee per day, free on Gold and Custom tiers and on Hatchwise Unlimited. If a contest runs in full, misses your package minimum and no winner is awarded, the money back guarantee applies within 14 days of the submission period ending.
