Do it [join Hatchwise] — I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. And I think the price is right. You’ll be able to mark up the price and get paid for your time and investment in the project. And I think it’s a better way than hiring an individual artist.

Questions

Common questions

What kinds of projects fit a custom graphic design contest?

Anything visual that is not covered by a dedicated category: labels and packaging, book and album covers, posters, menus, vehicle wraps, social and ad graphics, infographics and illustration. If you can describe the size and the purpose, designers can enter it.

How much does it cost?

Custom graphic design packages start at $119. The $49 listing fee is included in the package price, and the rest is the prize paid to the winning designer.

How specific does my brief need to be?

Specific about the format, flexible about the look. Give exact dimensions, where the piece will appear, what text must fit, and the brands or styles you admire. Then leave the creative direction open so the entries are genuinely different from each other.

What files do I get?

The layered source file plus JPG, PNG, TIFF, EPS and PDF, which covers both print and web use. Full commercial rights transfer on award.

Can I get several variations of the winning piece?

Yes. After you award, additional designs are available at $100 each from the winning designer, which is the usual route for size variants and follow up pieces.

More detail

How a custom graphic design contest works

A custom graphic design contest covers the work that does not fit a fixed category: packaging, labels, book covers, posters, menus, signage, social graphics and illustration. You describe the piece and the format, designers submit original artwork, and packages start at $119 with the $49 listing fee included.

Be exact about the format

Give the finished dimensions, the medium, the text that must fit and where the piece will appear. A label has a dieline, a poster has a viewing distance, a social graphic has a crop. Designers can solve for any of those constraints once they know them.

Leave the look open

Specify the practical constraints and then let the field explore. The point of a contest is that ten designers interpret the same brief differently, which is exactly what you lose if the brief prescribes the final image.

Files, rights and payment

On award you receive the layered source file plus JPG, PNG, TIFF, EPS and PDF, and full commercial rights transfer to you. Designers are paid the prize on the 1st and the 14th of each month via PayPal. Additional pieces are available at $100 each from the winning designer after the award.

Timing, upgrades and the guarantee

Award at any time while the contest is running: the 10 day window is the guaranteed period for entries, not a wait. A 48 Hour Rush speeds entries up, blind and private options limit who sees what, and extensions cost a small fee per day, free on Gold and Custom tiers and on Hatchwise Unlimited. If a contest runs in full, misses your package minimum and no winner is awarded, the money back guarantee applies within 14 days of the submission period ending.
