What’s The Difference Between Content Marketing And Copywriting?

If you’ve made it to this corner of the web and are currently reading this article then I am assuming that you have some experience with both of our subjects; content marketing and copywriting. After all, both of these are common phrases that we hear in the business world.

Even if you don’t happen to be a part of the business world then I’m sure these two phrases are vaguely familiar to you. On a base level, copywriting is associated with writing done for a company, and content marketing, although our readers may not be entirely sure of its meaning, is associated with marketing.

However, although those may be the base association for those two, they have a much deeper meaning. The purpose of this article is to educate you on both content marketing and copywriting; ultimately educating you on the differences between the two.

What is Content Marketing?

Content marketing means convincing consumers to trust you and, long time, convince them to use your company.

Content marketing is any original content that is created by your team to achieve brand awareness for your company. Here are a few examples of what can qualify as content marketing.

● Blog posts

● Articles

● Videos

● White papers

● Email Newsletters

What do all these things have in common? They’re an effective way to communicate with your consumers and, over time, gain their trust and convince them to use your company. It’s a slow but rewarding process.

Content marketing is a critical part of ensuring that the news of your business is out there and, even if consumers don’t directly buy from you at the moment of seeing content marketing then they’ll know your company exists. In a lot of ways, this is as equally beneficial for a company as a customer buying from them.

What is Copywriting?

Copywriting is content that convinces consumers to take action.

You’ve probably heard the term copywriting if you work online, with marketing, or are involved in the industry. Copywriters write the content for sales pages, ads, and direct mail. Copywriting is an incredibly important marketing tool; it drives your business to achieve a goal by convincing your customers that the product that you’re offering will offer them value.

Copywriters write content that will ultimately lead consumers to a call to action. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they immediately buy from your company, the call to action can sometimes be much simpler. Maybe, in the end, they’ll sign up for your email list or even something as simple as giving you a call after they’ve read the content.

However, copywriting almost always has the end goal of convincing consumers to take action.

Which is better – Content Marketing or Copywriting?

In our opinion, both content marketing and copywriting is a crucial part of a business. To get great results, businesses should use both of them. In a sense, the two work as a tag team to get companies clients.

While content marketing works to draw consumers in and get them to pay attention to your company, copywriting gets them to take the clear action of either buying your products or using your services.

In Conclusion

Overall, both content marketing and copywriting is beneficial for any company. They serve purposes and can help to both gain customers, get repeat customers as well as bring brand awareness to a company.

Although they are different they both have one similarity; they help to ultimately gain your company customers. In our opinion, any good business needs both content marketing and copywriting to gain new consumers and bring awareness to their brand.
