Name of Contest:NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION: PROTECTED SPECIES
Who we are:We are a private environmental consultant helping the US Navy with a public outreach campaign regarding natural resources conservation. The target audience is the general public ages 6 to 99. It should be assumed that the audience does not have an in-depth understanding of natural resources conservation.
What they need written:We need a slogan to promote conservation of protected species in Guam and the Marianas. Protected species means those plants, animals and other biological organisms that are protected under State, Federal, and International laws such as the Endangered Species Act.
This is very important:A short succinct phrase to remind people that conservation of protected species is important so that these resources will remain for this and future generations. People can do their part to protect these species.
The slogan will be incorporated into a graphic design that will then be printed on swag items (i.e. water bottles and grocery totes). The swag will be distributed at environmental events in Guam and the Marianas. The not-yet-developed graphic will contain some of the marine species in Guam and the Marianas such as corals, sea turtles, manta rays, spinner dolphins, whales, dugongs and reef fish Some of the marine environment conservation issues for this area include: climate change, destructive fishing practices, irresponsible tourism, a high number of endangered species, and pollution. These issues will be discussed in a presentation and participants will be given a swag item to keep. The slogan on the swag should act as a reminder of the information they learned. (See Marine Environment Examples reference file for examples of some of the photos that may be used for this presentation). The swag item will also contain the NAVFAC logo (see reference file).
