Bookbinding for Everyone
Describe your company and organization and target audience
Company - bookbinding techniques, tips, tricks, training and related products and tools for the creation or repair of handmade books, pamphlets, boxes and related items. Awls are used across the bookbinding and leather working practices and have been an essential tool of the trade for centuries dating back to the Byzantine period. We're playing on words with TheWiseAwl as our foremost focus at launch will be an educational/informative angle on the art itself.
Target Audience - new and experienced bookbinders who are looking for more information on the art, where to find materials from starter to advanced, or those just looking to understand more about the art form and it's historical application or modern usage.
Bookbinders are a curious type. They're artistic and appreciate fine art, but they're often creative in their application of ancient methods. They vary from super strict in practice (by-the-book byzantine method) to super fluid (using recycled materials in their work). They're often Eco conscious and look to preserve and have a deep respect for historical things, people, places, etc. Their expense tolerance increases with age. They are oftentimes writers, bloggers, artists, nomads. They appreciate complex messaging in simplistic designs.
The design should have the following
We've considered trying to use an owl in the logo, as this is where the "wiseawl" comes from, but we are open to all ideas.
We would like the logo to be easily transferable to materials such as book cloth and leather, so it should be clean or have a clean icon that can be leveraged in a mold or cast in iron or brass. The tagline isn't required to accompany the logo.
This logo will be used for
- Online (Website, facebook etc.)
- Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
- Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
- Television/screen
This design should not have this in the entries
Please don't use Comic Sans. Ever.
