The on-line serial you didn’t know you needed
Describe your company and organization and target audience
I am John Saye, a self-published author, and today I’m shopping for a logo to use primarily for an email newsletter that’s to be a science fiction serial. Though delivered in text, a scene at a time, my target audience is likely to be podcast listeners, tabletop gamers, and sci-fi junkies. They are often stuck commuting or at work, and sending additional distractions like this to their work emails, something entertaining to read while they are supposed to be working. They like to read a chapter on their phone when in the bathroom, in a monotonous meeting, or while waiting for their train.
The design should have the following
I am looking for a podcast-like logo, square in shape, 3000x3000 px, at 72 dpi? Whatever makes Apple happy now. I would like a white, or preferably transparent background so I can try some different colors later, and more easily adapt it to merch. If the png has a transparent background, that’s fantastic. Starship Enigma is an adventure series about a star cruiser taking vacationers on an interstellar cruise, and getting in trouble along the way. Think Love Boat with Pirates, in space, and maybe the captain has a dark secret and he used to be one of the pirates. Something Indiana Jones + Back to the Future + Blade Runner, with cutlasses, daggers, diamonds, planets, and skulls. Too much? Use the best and toss the rest. The primary site I intend to use is Substack, it’s designed to deliver paid subscriptions to text and audio content, so think like this is a podcast logo. It needs to look clean and great at different sizes, as small as 196x196 sometimes. Not necessary, but If you are daring and want to try illustrating the starship as part of this, think Titanic or Royal Caribbean + pirate ship, but a space cruiser, with a surface similar to the millennium falcon with a racing stripe and visible life pods.
This logo will be used for
- Online (Website, facebook etc.)
- Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
This design should not have this in the entries
Please refrain from fonts that are too thin, swirly, or needlessly chaotic. Try to keep them bold and clean.
Colors to use in the design
I’m open to different color schemes, however, I like jewel tones with grays, blacks, and whites better than pastels or primaries.
Briefly describe your contest
Create a square logo for an on-line newsletter that delivers a surreal science fiction serialized story. It’s Starship Enigma, a cruise liner in space with pirates! What could go wrong?
