SGI Cat Allies is a TNVR (Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return) group located on St. George Island, FL. For more information on SGI Cat Allies: http://www.sgicatallies.com/ For more information on TNVR: http://humanesocietytampa.org/feralcats/tnvrworks/ SGI Cat Allies started out with a few women working to rescue a colony of cats there that were being trapped and killed. From that first success, they started a group to help cats on the island and named it SGI Cat Allies (SGI is the known acronym for St. George Island). St. George Island is a barrier island just off the gulf coast of FL, just south of Apalachicola. It is simply beautiful -- sometimes it is ranked in one of the top 10 beaches in the country. A large part of the island is a pristine state park; the other end of the island is made up of expensive and nice beach homes. In the middle are the beachy restaurants, bars, etc. It is in Franklin County, which is a poor rural county in FL. A lot of semi- and retired people come on down to the island during the winter months. It is a vacation destination. There are a good number of people that have some wealth. Many who visit are, of course are nature and animal lovers. Like many touristy places with hotels and restaurants, there are a good number of community cats. SGI Cat Allies desperately wants to keep the population down and healthy via TNVR, so the cats don't become a nuisance (leading to the killing mentioned above).
