@Orafaz: No problem. I understand completely. We understood going into this that there was the risk of not getting something we could all agree upon. As I told one designer, the whole process has been rather organic and our minds have changed multiple times as each designer put his/her interpretation on our stated needs. In the end, it is likely that I lead more than I should have, especially as the clock ticked down. It is impossible to achieve the same creative dynamic you get when dealing with someone face to face, but obviously the advantage of an online contest is more ideas at a lower cost; a reasonable tradeoff. I think the biggest lesson learned for me was that a large quantity of entries does not always guarantee success. I think there were several designers that stood out from the pack, but unfortunately there were a lot of others that seemed to just throw a lot of options out there in the hopes that something would stick. In some cases, the designer had posted the same logo to multiple contests, but just changed the name of the company. I wish hatchwise would develop a feature that would allow contest holders to eliminate certain designers from the contest altogether when it becomes obvious that their sense of design is not ever going to mesh with the desired outcome of the holder. I believe the fact that I had to comment on every post diminished the quality of feedback I might have provided to those designers who genuinely care about their clients' needs. While that is unfortunate, I suppose it is one of the drawbacks of doing business online. I appreciate your professionalism and wish you nothing but the best. We are scheduled to meet tomorrow to pick a winner. Stay tuned...

I think we all got a little mad here, but the reason is the same: you didn't get what you wanted. We are also willin to produce quality designs. It just happens sometimes that we fail to do so, for various reasons. gkenny, working with the chosen designer to improve the logo is common practice here, so I hope you will get a result you will be pleased with. Best regards

I feel you had a good few concepts that relayed that message previous to your graphic upload that then took it in a totally different direction :(

Some of us put a lot of time and energy in creating a design that fits your needs, so maybe changing your mind overnight is counterproductive for you and for us. Creating a good logo is not magic, you just have to work with us. So I sugest you use your option to extend the contest and give yourself one hour a day to rate and constructively comment every entry. (Sending people to read the general comments where you first say you want something and the next day you chane 180 degrees is not constructive.) This should guarantee you the logo you need.

I thought I would take this opportunity to post a message I received from one of the designers in a last ditch effort to get some different logo styles. "I looked at the attached logo and it's just my opinion, but I think it sends the wrong message. The "metamessages" it communicates are fragmentation and dehumanization. My understanding is that your goal isn't to meld healthcare and engineering, but to enable providers and patients to have the right information at the right time. If anything you would be helping folks make the experience of giving and receiving healthcare more personal." I actually agree with these statements, but at this point,I'm not sure if there is enough time left to get alternate entries. In any event, maybe this will give someone some inspiration.

@Orafaz and traceygl: I accept your constructive criticism and understand your frustration. I didn't mean to imply that I had changed my mind ("180 degrees"). The intent was to communicate that I would consider all concepts, but I recognized in my post, it was probably "too little too late." Please understand my frustration as well. I have also poured a lot of my own time into trying to communicate the emphasis of the company, but the majority (not all)of the designers seemed to only be submitting what their design skills would allow (at best) while others were submitting the same concepts that they used for other contests (at worst). I should probably share that these are the sentiments of our entire team and not just one individual. As far as extending the contest, I didn't realize that was an option. Regardless, I'm not sure I'm inclined to extend the contest for fear of prolonging the agony. No one should take my comments personally. I will be picking a winner, so you need not worry about about that; however I won't be using any of the logos that are available (it's ashame so many options were withdrawn because there were some that I might have actually picked from that are now no longer available). If the designer I pick is kind enough to work with me offline (within reason of course), then perhaps I can salvage some value out of this experience; but I certainly understand if the selected winner wants to just "take the money and call it a day."

I'm looking for a graphic designer that can recreate the "concept" of the logo I submitted (see link above) but with much better quality. I am fine if you want to reproduce what I have done; just please do it in vector format so that it can scale without losing resolution.

Please see the file I have uploaded and tailor your contest submissions around that design. I am willing to look at other concepts, but I'm running out of time. Please improve upon the graphic I have submitted and remember to keep it as simple and elegant as possible. Thanks. ************************************** PLEASE LOOK AT THE COLUMN NEXT TO THE DESIGN BRIEF. IT IS LABELED "FILES THAT YOU HAVE UPLOADED" ********************************* If you still can't find it, then try this link: http://www.hatchwise.com/user_upload/2011-05-02%2008:38:18MederioLogo.jpg

The concept of the logo I uploaded represents disparate components coming together to form a cohesive health system (represented by the first aid cross). The gear represents the concept of engineering and progress. Please review the file I have uploaded to the general contest notes and tailor your design around this concept.

It seems many of you are not reading the comments that are being posted. I strongly encourage you to do so as this will prevent us from wasting each others time. Here is some further guidance. I'm okay with the concept of a bridge in the logo (since bridges are "engineering marvels") and they connect things together. Just remember that the slogan we will be using is "Engineering better healthcare". Generally speaking, I am okay with the following objects in our logo: 1) a bridge or gear(s), but not both to represent "engineering" 2) people (abstract) to represent the doctor/patient relationship 3) a first aid cross (but it should be subtle - like the arrow in FedEx's logo) 4) the letter "M" (but it should be subtle) Consider an abstract amalgamation of some (but not necessarily all) of the above elements to represent our goal of "Engineering better healthcare" Keep the logo simple, elegant, and memorable **************************** I am also very open to completely different ideas as long as it communicates the message: "Engineering better healthcare" If you do depart from these suggestions, please describe your logo concept in your post. If you don't, then don't get upset if you get a low rating. Thanks.

I appreciate all of the entries so far and thought I would provide some grist for the mill so some of you might consider other concepts. Here is an excerpt from our web site (under development) that describes our company. The key focus of our company is to engineer better solutions for our clients (medical practices) so that they are more effective at delivering care to their patients. Our solutions generally rely on information technology (IT), but we see IT as simply a tool rather than a solution. We desire every solution we build for our clients to be seen as seamless and noninvasive. We prefer to be seen as a partner rather than a vendor. One of the biggest issues in healthcare today is interoperability (i.e. interconnecting disparate data systems so the right clinical decisions can be made at the right time). In a sense, Mederio Group helps its clients "bridge the gap" between silos of information that exist both internal and external to the medical practice. Culturally, we do not accept the attitude that you "can't get there from here", and we thrive in environments that require a high degree of problem solving. Copyright 2011; Mederio Group, LLC

Some additional guidance after reviewing entries received today. Logo needs to communicate (even if it is abstractly) our desire to engineer better healthcare by seamlessly linking patients with their physicians. I prefer logos that are custom designed as opposed to those that look like a mashup of clipart. I prefer fonts without serifs but please avoid script fonts. I prefer elegant simplicity over logos that are busy as they are easier to remember.

So far, the designs that have been submitted seem to be missing the mark. If your design receives a score of two or lower, then you should abandon that design's concept altogether and go back to the drawing board. A slogan/tagline we have considered is: "Engineering better healthcare." Perhaps that will spark some new ideas.
