I'm stunned. After viewing a few of these contests, I felt I needed to explain something. A logo is a representation, a symbol that embodies the ideas and personality of something. They are simple, powerful, communicate effectively and are timeless. ****The one you choose has little or nothing to do with Shakespeare. Rectangle blocks of dark green form the letter C. (Strange) Within these blocks is type inspired by art deco letters of the 1920's and 30's. The type has also been stretched and manipulated in some program like photoshop. (Again strange). That only destroys the art form of the original type, done by an artist, but also has nothing to do with Shakespeare. The colors, green and dark green to me, say bank or army, I'm not sure. Definitely not Renaissance. Then there is a half cropped image of shakespeare clip art. I assume half cropped to communicate mystery. (Again strange). Try implementing this logo or design on a t-shirt, a mug, anything... extremely difficult because of the light effects and shading filters it employs through photoshop. I'm not upset you didn't pick my design, more so that you picked one that doesn't communicate in any way "Shakespeare." I'm assuming that those that read shakespeare have supercilious manners and fall into the trap of a intellectual singularity. Just goes to show, one can read shakespeare and be completely uneducated within the arts.

I agree, being artistic is for the most part, relative. Though, I think graphic design has elements of artistry, it also has, especially logos, elements of communication, attention value, association to the nature of the company, tone of voice, etc. Everything says something. Graphic design is more than copy, paste, type, "I like it" (arbitrary artistry) Sorry to rant. I'm passionate about graphic design. Or graphic excellence. I believe in forums like hatchwise, to compete, I just wish designers educated themselves more, prior to doing it. "The history of typography. What font to use. What color to use. What color communicates. Proportion, line, etc. You don't have to go to an art school, but you should send yourself to your own, through info on the web. Much design in the world today is poor. Within graphical standards. I hate to see the propagation of graphic ignorance. Go to www.aiga.com. Or read some books.
