What's the book about?

Hi Jinkodesigns, We publish books in all categories and think the logo should be generic to cover present and future books. Egg & Dart is a decorative molding used in homes (check Wikopedia) but we also publish cookbooks and think the logo should have a broader meaning. Hope this helps. Thank you!

Tracygl, Thank you for your submission. It's cute but not what we're looking for because we feel it's a bit juvenile and couldn't fit on the spine of a book cover vertically. We're looking for a design that is upscale, clever and it's probably a good idea to have it look like it's been a company that's been established for 100 years. If there's something modern that conveys that same message (we love Phaidon, Running Press publishing logos, examples because they stand out can be easly distinguished and recognized on a retail store bookshelf and they're different. I hope this helps. Thank you for your submission.

I'm unsure of how to post comments - someone let me know if you do - but tracygl, thank you for the additional designs. The name over the molding seems like it should be reversed and the molding i would think should not be solid. I'm not convinced this will be a remarkable mark. On the other, the font is nice (more elegant and old school and typeset like) but the icon is still young. It's the same as the 1st submission with the exception of being in B&W and not color.

Geere, Thank you for your submission. The font to me doesn't resemble a publishing house, it's heavy for a spine and it's without an icon that describes what this publishing house embodies. I don't know if my comments are clear enough so please come back with more questions. Thank you.

Thank you Operator50. Close. I think it could feel more like a reputable, solid publishing house that has had many award winning books. It feels new and needs to be more "bookish".

EGG & DART With the icon either above it or below is I think is the only way for this company name to fit on a book spine.

can this contest will be fully pre-paid?

Hi Alocelja, were a successful corporation and of course will pay for the design we choose. This is the first time we've "hired" this way and will most likely prepay the next project after this first one!

Orna147-Konsolen.png 120px-Egg_and_dart_(PSF).png These are two egg and dart moldings, the first is a corbel and the 2nd is a molding. These would work well I think.

i have one more avenue i'd like to explore. can everyone focus on a simple dart frog silhouette? horizontal text to be used under it on the title page of a book. (the text doesn't have to fit on the spine)

Dear CH, Correct me if I'm wrong but the dart frog was not2shabby's original idea and therefore it is not appropriate to ask designers to submit entries based on another designer's idea. No disrespect intended but designer's work hard to come up with ideas that set them apart from the other submissions and so when a designer comes up with a concept that is unique and not something that everyone else would have thought of, that concept belongs to that designer.

Why would you want a deadly frog (as in poisonous darts) on the side of your cook books? An odd choice, imho... That said, I agree, it was not2shabby's original submission and he/she should be given a shot to pursue it.

Dear CH, Please forward us to a better path with clear informations about your needs, for all the rejected roughs (note 1/5). Frog / Egg & Dart / Impact... What's missing? Would be greatly apreciated, if you have some time (before constest ends) to drop here and there on 1/5's some precious thoughts for us designers. Thanks in advance Best regards Z.

Yup.... Here's the thoughts behind my submission. First of all the design is made to be more or less timeless. This is achieved by several factors. One is the choice of font - I went with Times New Roman because it's a typopgraphical classic that people instantly connect with style and class. Furthermore I took the classic egg and dart design, and gave it 30's spin - in other words the basic logo could easily be 80 years old. Then I gave it a twist and a touch of humor by adding the yoke to the egg so it had a more modern side to it as well. Finally I tweaked it so that I made sure it would work on bookcovers in a wide variety of colors. In other words, while my submission might seem simple there's been put alot of thought into it and I really do believe that I came up with something timeless, classy and appealing to a sophisticated modern costumer..... Sooooo, some sort of feedback would be nice :) - Kim
