***Current T-Shirt*** Hey everyone, this is going to be a fun contest because it's going to be printed on a lot of t-shirts. As stated above, I am looking for a logo to be printed on the back of a t-shirt, thus, it is going to be large. Currently, this is what the shirt looks like, but only the front will stay the same, the back is up to you! But, I would like to incorporate the Chicago flag if possible, but it is not required. Here is what we have today: http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_design.gif http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_back2.jpg http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_design_front.gif http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_front2.jpg Notice how the back of the t-shirt incorporates the Chicago flag: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Chicago (actually this one has a mistake on it, they should be 6-pointed stars, these are only 5) ***Colors*** Because this going to be printed on a T-shirt, do not use more than 2 colors. I'd like to see it in one if possible. Here is an example of san diego's: http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/sdseal1.gif Good luck to all! And check out our other contests! Thanks!

***No Crosses Please*** Although the red cross is universally accepted in many corners of the world as being lifeguard-related--it is owned by the American Red Cross. We are not allowed to use anything that uses a cross. *** TIP *** Most people want to see the same image but with better graphics: http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_design.gif Most lifeguard agencies use a ring buoy and in the middle, they have something that represents them. Take a look at these: http://www.dafin.com/v/images/uslalogotest.jpg http://www.lifeguardsforlife.org/photos/pnwuslaimages/sharklogo2x2.jpg http://www.kauai.gov/Portals/0/KFD/USLA_logo.jpg http://www.auction-warehouse.com/lotImage/Pensacola%20Beach%20Life%20Guard.jpg http://www.boyscouttrail.com/i/boyscout/lifeguard_patch.gif http://www.jdca.com/ebay/_as-jt/asp_2039.jpg http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/sdseal2.gif https://www.dbembroidery.com/images/products/2991.jpg *** DESCRIPTION *** In our original, you will notice: -That the flag of Chicago is represented (blue stripes and red stars). (we like this element of the current design) -Two oars....Chicago uses boats with oars so thus the symbolism for this logo makes sense (we also like this element of the current design) *** What most are asking for *** Again, most people want the same design but with better graphics: http://whojohndavid.com/pickup/lifeguard_design.gif Instead of a swimmer in the middle we wanted something different and meaningful, so most people wanted to see a boat washed up on the beach. One that looks like: http://comps.fotosearch.com/comp/PDS/PDS054/lifeguard-stand-rowing_~LS021367.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1119/543221827_846b1764aa.jpg?v=0 However, some asked for the Chicago skyline Sorry for the long answer, but I think we have something we already like, but want a pro like yourself to "clean it up" and perhaps show us something we didn't think of. Thanks!

*** TIP *** Although we provided a link of what we had and enjoy, DONT let this stop you from coming up with something NEW or Better! HOW: Take our Chicago Flag and morph it into an applicable logo. So, same colors, stars, etc: Have a peak at the flag: http://chicagoist.com/attachments/chicago_benjy/2007_04_news_4star_flag.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a2/Municipal_Flag_of_Chicago.svg Remember -- no crosses. Thanks!

designme, 1. what links do dot work? All links are up on our end, check your isp. 2. "the link to the flag that is a picture of the chicago flag.. You might want to recount them because they are six pointed stars..." : in my first comment I said "they should be 6-pointed stars" just like in the flag 3. Cross: this is owned by the American Red Cross! You posted someone's logo, modified it a bit, and past it off as your own idea? That's not why I came to this site. Large agencies -- such as Chicago -- get in trouble if there are similarities. As soon as someone posted a cross I made this clear, but figured because you're a pro would know that using other organization's intellectual property is not acceptable.

Logo Copyright Information: http://webclipart.about.com/od/msub32aa/l/bllogo.htm "Simple, well known symbols may also be copyright protected. For example, the red cross symbol of the American Red Cross may not be used in any manner by anyone other than the American National Red Cross and its duly authorized employees and agents and the sanitary and hospital authorities of the armed forces of the United States. If I draw a simple red cross, add a smiling face, arms and legs may I use this on my Web pages or documents? No. This would be a copyright infringement and you could face legal procedures."

SquirrelySoft: Just to clarify, the American Red Cross only owns the rights to the "red" cross and of exact height and width specifications. Any other color or color combination, aside from stated here, http://www.redcross.org/email/logos/sig.asp, is not owned or copyrighted by the American Red Cross. I'm not arguing for either side in this matter, just clarifying what, specifically, American Red Cross owns. I am still working on a design that I'll, hopefully, post soon.

*** IDEAS *** This contest has been pretty dead. Here are some ideas though. Use elements of the following to come up with a logo: Chicago Flag
Chicago Star
Ring Buoy
Dory
Skyline
Swimmer
Someone just thought of this: two wavy blue lines and a swimmer swimming (the swimmer is a morphed chicago red star, each corner of the star is morphed into a leg, arm, head, etc

Well, if you order by score the top 3 it looks like: jyee1977: looks good, maybe a bigger wave would be neat, but we like it. Entry #46942 - Submitted by: ArtMachine: Nice, similar to ours, but the oars need to look more like Jee's or similar. The skyline doesn't look like Chicagos' Entry #46988 - Submitted by: JNad: I personally like this one (minimalism) The rescue buoy could benefit from having the 4 squareish looking patches om it as in jyee1977's -- as it doesn't look exactly like a rescue buoy w/out them. Again, look at the series of photos to get ideas. Although we like what we currently have (generally speaking) we are open to something new. Someone just thought of this: two wavy blue lines and a swimmer swimming (the swimmer is a morphed chicago red star, each corner of the star is morphed into a leg, arm, head, just an idea that I think would be really cool.

While that is great, not rating the other entries leaves the designers to believe you are only looking for bouys and oars. And since you state you are open to new ideas, rating all submission even if they are not what you are looking motivates the designer to keep trying new things.

@jyee1977: your design in mostly identical with a lifeguard logo of a city in florida: http://www.cityofflaglerbeach.com/library/images/Lifeguard%20Logo.jpg

You're kidding right. Most all lifeguard patched have a ring buoy and oars.

@jyee1977: In your design, even the rope has the same shape. Here`s another design: http://www.ci.oceanside.ca.us/images/jl-1.gif Do you still think I`m kidding?

Shadow, it's ok. Most agencies use the ring buoy/oars theme/template, just as most fire departments use the following: http://www.storestoshop.com/leases/S205/PixProdEX620.jpeg
