The design should have the following
We’d like a fun, bold logo with an illustration or character that can be used with or without the logo. They should each be able to stand alone. The illustration should also be bold and fun. “Alex” can be a male or female – we’d like “Alex” to be generic enough that we can put a hat on him or a pony tail on her at some point depending upon the occasion. “Alex” is not necessarily a human, but could be, but it’s definitely something active with lots of energy (although, again, not so much energy that the logo is not bold and clear). We’ve fooled around with Alex being a stick figure, a spring, an animal – although we’ve not been too keen on the animal. It can’t be too “cute” as the content is fun but serious. Colors are good but it needs to be able to be printed in just one color on stickers, t-shirts, etc. or two as well.

Parents in an upper-middle class suburb – probably more moms than dads – of active kids but there will be some features for the kids so we want to be sure our logo and illustration/character will be bold and easily identifiable to make the parents an

No. The important thing is that everything is easy to read whether the logo is enlarged or shrunken.
