B.T. This was really interesting reading. I never thought about the "seasonal" thing, but I sure do like the idea a bunch. I could easily write a script based on a date and/or date range to load a different image. Really gets me thinking. Thanks for these comments.
these designs are originally in 2 colors. The Sun, lady bug and sky give it 3 more colors (i am not counting the light gray for clouds as i can make simulate the same effect with the original colors. My thoughts as to save money on printing would be to use a good gang run CMYK printer, one printer to not get a large variation between colors. www.printplace.com is good, but so are many others. The logo is so detailed that PMS colors may not be absolutely necessary to create a connection.. although it would be nice. But then again, this logo looked good without all the frills such as sun, sky, clouds. Getting rid of those things would knock this down to 3 colors; brown, green and red or pink for the lady bug. Another nice thing about this concept (including the other versions) is that you don't need to always have all the bugs. You can brand the name with the pencil stump thing and change the scenery seasonally and only on the web. (like google). For instance for mothers day the lady bug mommy may come into play. During winter their may be a snow scene. During the fall the leaves may change color. It is very open to play and that may really help brand your company as a friendly, creative, nature writer. Also the updating of the logo would be a nice touch to the fact you want to include it to a blog, who's nature is to constantly change. Anyway these are my thoughts as a marketing design guy. I would be happy to adjust my designs in whatever way you like.
I wondered when I was going to see some terr firma in these icon. It seem to be a natural conclusion to its evlolution. I'm gald you keep the colors consistent. I'm worried about too much detail and too much color for a logo in terms of cost. Granted this is pretty, but I wonder if evertying it needed. Jury is out until I talk to my daughter. You may get a score bump on this later.
Hi, the other two submissions are the result of the edits you asked for. This entry is one that i would consider my current personal favorite.
Fast. Awesome. Affordable
