Famous Colorado Logos

Traveling to Colorado is a bucket-worthy trip. The state is home to the Rocky Mountains, great food, impressive skiing (and hiking) trails, and some of the most picturesque scenery you’ll encounter in the United States. Given this, it’s no wonder why so many companies would want to set up their home base in this state full of natural beauty.

From OtterBox to Chipotle to KONG, the range of companies that got their start in Colorado is widespread. We guess there is something to be said about the ideas that hit you as you take in the sights of Colorado! With so much creative juice flowing in the state, it’s clear Colorado’s brands can teach us a thing or two about logo design as well.

Crocs

Whether or not you are a Crocs lover, the shoe is hard to miss. Crocs is a publicly traded company today, but the brand started as a small idea born out of Broomfield, Colorado in 2002. Founded by trio, Scott Seamans, Lyndon “Duke” Hanson, and George Boedecker Jr., these three men were on a quest to create a comfortable boat shoe that was slip resistant and could float. That idea took off and today Crocs generates upwards of $2 billion in revenue annually.

The Crocs logo is a simple, lowercase wordmark with a crocodile symbol placed above the wordmark. The font features rounded corners to the letters highlighting not only the friendliness of the brand but also the modern take the brand has taken on a boat shoe. The entire logo is printed in black and white, two colors that translate well no matter the marketing medium. The crocodile seen on the logo not only references the Crocs name, but it has a greater purpose. Part of the reason why the company was called “Crocs” is because the original Crocs shoes resemble the head of a crocodile.

Coors Brewing Company

If you’re a beer lover, you’ve likely heard of (and had a) Coors before. Coors was founded 150 years ago in the same place its headquarters is today, in Golden, Colorado. Founded by Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler, the duo started their brewery empire after purchasing a recipe for a pilsner beer from a Czech immigrant they encountered one day.

Today, Coors operates under Moison Coors which produces not only Coors, but also other beloved beers (and seltzers) like Miller Light, Blue Moon, Vizzy, and more. With so many competing breweries across the country, and the world, Coors has kept its title of “single largest single brewing facility” that operates in the world. Coors’ logo has subtle elements that highlight where the brewing company was founded, in Colorado. The color for the solo Coors logo is a blue hue.

This is a crisp color choice meant to depict the cold temperature (and taste) of a Coors beer. Beyond that, the color also ties to the great outdoors where the water for brewing the beer is found. The font is a cursive font that resembles handwriting, representing the informal act of cracking open a beer and the friendliness of the brand. Often depicted alongside the logo is a mountain range, symbolizing the Rocky Mountains that reside close by.

DISH Network Corporation

DISH Network started as a satellite television company founded by Charlie Ergen in 1995 in Meridian, Colorado, but has since grown to be much more than that. Beyond satellite television, DISH has expanded to several subsidiaries including Sling TV, Sling Media Inc., and Boost Mobile. Its expansion into these territories shows us that DISH is much more than satellite television, it’s an entire television provider, a mobile service provider, a wireless provider, and so much more.

Today, DISH is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, and last year, the company generated more than $17 billion in revenue. In looking at DISH Network’s logo, one particular feature stands out. The “DISH” wordmark is written in bold, lowercase letters in vibrant red color. Rather than using an “I” though, the DISH’s design team replaced that letter with an abstract satellite. This symbol directly connects the logo to the brand. This symbol showcases how through satellite, DISH can connect you to communication and technology no matter how far away you are.
