Deciphering Earth's Stories

Describe your company and organization and target audience

Hi, I am a Geology professor who has decided to start a blog that describes geology to rockhounders, amateur paleontologists, and anyone interested in rocks. The idea is to explain the geological history of different areas, interesting facts, and how geology is part of our everyday lives in an informative and hopefully light-hearted and funny way by distilling academic and other technical information into something that non-geologists can understand and find interesting. The idea for this blog evolved from the constant questions my friends and neighbours have regarding nearly every place we visit with rocks or things they read or find. Ultimately, I would also like to use the logo on t-shirts and other clothing for retail.

The design should have the following

I would like the design to have some connection to the Earth and rocks. Maybe a mountain or a rock. A rock hammer could be interesting but not necessary. A classy logo that people wouldn't mind wearing is ideal and something that conveys knowledge rather than funny would be good. Also something that is simple and not overly complicated is preferred. I have attached an example of a logo I really like. An emblem, symbol or Combo of emblem and text would be awesome!

This logo will be used for

  • Online (Website, facebook etc.)
  • Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)

This design should not have this in the entries

I don't really want the website name (www.whattherock.ca) to appear in the logo. The blog name (What the Rock) could be in it, but I prefer not unless it looks classy. The initials (WTR) could be included though.

What style of logo would you like?

Colors to use in the design

MY preferred colours are: 1) dark and light gray; 2) 2 shades of Green (including forest green); 3) 2 shades of blue
