Welcome, designers! I've spent two days looking through contest results and I am so impressed with you all. I can't wait to see what you come up with for Singleton Wordsmiths. We're just starting business, so the winning design will influence our corporate image, materials and look-and-feel. I'm excited about the collaboration. I will attempt to log on often and leave many comments. Good luck! Laura Singleton

Are you set on only using one color?

i don't know what happened, but for some reason when i first submitted my entry rochelleann's design showed up under my name, so i reposted mine.....I just wanted to clarify, that it was not my design nor was i claiming it.

Simplyg123, that is so strange! I wonder if George can fix that? I can't reply to the comments posted by the contest holder, since it was submitted in your name. Really weird. I'll PM George.

What colors would you like to see? You mention "Professional colors"....

Thanks for clarifying, simplyg123. I didn't even notice the difference in the "submitted by" line.

Colors: I've often heard that blue is seen as the most "corporate" color (connoting professionalism, trust and solidness). Green connotes creativity; red is active, etc., so I assume that something in the blue, green, gray families would be best. That said, I wouldn't veto something simply due to colors. Sorry, I know that's not as firm as I should be--I don't mean to make things hard on you guys! Just not sure what's best yet.

Oh, I forgot to answer simplyg123's question about being set on one color. Whatever logo we end up with needs to look great in black & white & 1 color processing (for cost reasons).

While you're asking george if he can fix THAT, maybe you can ask him to add stripslashes() to the phpmail. =0 Oh, and find a new host. This web site is slower than a 7 year itch sometimes. godaddy is cheap and fast. ;)

I have the slowest internet in the world (it's true! - I'm in Alaska), and the site loads fast for me, too...except for the 'My Contests' page.

^^ Yeah. It's the "my contest" page that always takes long for me too. Sometimes it times out. Weird. Maybe something in the code on that page? Heh. Sorry for hijacking this contest, which I am not even in yet, with tech talk. =/

Hi everyone! One of the designers asked for guidance, and I thought that my response might be of help to everyone (know that I've sorted through so many, I'm understanding better what we want). Here's a reposting of my answer: "Wow-you're new? Congrats on putting yourself out there, and for making a solid effort. OK, here are some points: 1. I prefer fonts without shadows, outlines, etc because they are readable whether they're on a billboard, a moving car or business card. They're readable whether their in full color, black & white, full-sized or reduced. This is especially important for us, since both words are long & aren't super familiar. 2. If there is any pointers or emphasis on the "word" part (which was an excellent idea--underscoring what we do), it needs to be super professional. Think of the big corporations/products (or better yet, look at their logos). Even their slashes/underlines/ribbons that look thrown on are precise, balanced, full of energy & movement. 3. The purpose of our logo (and I would think every logo)is to quickly and memorably communicate something about our company that would want our ideal client to call us. We're positioning ourselves as "professional" and "creative" in order to establish credibility with potential clients. Therefore, we're looking for something that says those things. I know that was long-winded--I used to be a prof's teaching assistant in grad school & sometimes the teaching stuff just leaks out! Does this help? Let me know if you have any other questions. I really appreciate every designer who has put effort into this! You guys are amazing." Thanks everybody. You're producing awesome work--I look forward to seeing more! Laura Singleton

BIG CHANGE: MULTI-COLOR OK After looking at some awesome stuff you guys did for clients such as Dean Greer, MetroDesk, MacHarmony and Moda Mama, we've decided that we're open to multiple colors as long as the logo also works in Black & White.

ENDING CONTEST TUESDAY 11AM CENTRAL Hi everyone, We've had so many excellent entries that we've decided to end things early (we're eager to start using our new logo!) You guys have been so great that we've convinced 3 other companies to use the site within the coming months. We'll be ending the contest Tuesday 9/16 at 11:00am Central, so send in your revisions and last minute ideas ASAP. As we've reviewed the entries, our panel has come to want a couple of things: 1. Some color (in the families of olive, teal, indigo or red, and darker is better than lighter) 2. Some sort of icon/art that could be used independently of the logo as a watermark or sign-off symbol. You may want to consider using these elements in your submissions. Thanks again--you've produced fabulous work. Good luck! Laura

Thanks Singleton Wordsmiths for your inspiring comments which really motivated me. i guess i was a little taken back with the score. first time i ever gotten a "5" and then the next day i was bumped down to "4". I didnt realize that was possible. But... like i said, 1st time and it was great even though it only lasted a day.At least I had fun and I felt like a real Pro in the big league! all the other designers kick arse! So goodluck with everything. mezzah
