Describe your company and organization and target audience

Before it became associated with the Big Apple and comic book heroes, the word Gotham was Old English for 'a place where goats are kept'. We are a small start up farm located in Alberta, Canada that has a goal of producing high quality goats for the local market, producing quality livestock feed, as well as dabbling in cheese and soap making.

At Gotham Farms we want to reconnect people with their food and support local farmers and producers. Today's culture of shopping from chain stores supplied by massive corporate farms has led to a generation of people that do not know where their food comes from. We have recently seen how relying on a small number of large producers can lead to potential food insecurity should one of those suppliers be forced to shut down. By relying on larger numbers of small producers we can decrease food insecurity, lessen environmental impacts and support local farming families.

Our long-term vision and goals include:

1) Support local whenever possible when buying our feed, livestock and other supplies thus keeping as much of our money supporting the local economy as possible.
2) Support and participate in the local farm-table movement by supplying local restaurants and butcher shops with our products.
3) To lessen the impact of our operation on the environment by applying concepts of regenerative/sustainable agriculture and constantly learning about land management.
4) To benefit our local community by providing healthy products, education and supporting local charities.
