West Virginia is also home to a wide array of businesses whose logos have caught our attention. Below, we’ve listed three of these companies that each have a logo that has found its place in this state.

Marquee Cinema

Despite being outshined by Regal Cinemas, Showcase Cinemas, and AMC, Marquee Cinemas has developed a loyal following of moviegoers in the Eastern States. Founded in 1979 in Rainelle, West Virginia by Curtis McCall, Marquee Cinemas started as a way for Curtis to bring the big screen to his hometown. Marquee has since expanded to 14 locations, across 9 states, employing more than 550 team members. Today, Marquee’s headquarters can be found in Beckley, West Virginia, not far from Curtis’ hometown and original location.

Marquee Cinemas’ logo highlights the magic that is found on the movie screen. The logo features the company wordmark in two different fonts. The word “Marquee” is displayed in a dazzling red, with three stars incorporated into the font. These stars represent the Hollywood stars that appear on the big screen. The word “Cinemas” is displayed in a cursive white font, placed below the word “Marquee.” The entire wordmark sits in an oval design, representing a lit-up sign you might find in Hollywood on a big marquee.

Woodcraft Supply, LLC

In 1928, Woodcraft Supply was founded in Boston, Massachusetts, but in 1992, the headquarters were moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia. This move came after Sam Ross purchased the company in 1972 and spent two decades opening more retail locations and growing the brand. Woodcraft Supply, LLC is more than a woodworking specialty retail store. Besides having retail operations in 34 states, Woodcraft Supply, LLC also is the publisher of a woodworking magazine, a distributer of consumer catalogs, and an operator of an e-commerce site, allowing Woodcraft Supply to be accessible to anyone in the world.

The logo for Woodcraft is a simple one. It features the wordmark in thin, uppercase lettering. The two “o’s” in the wordmark intersect and the color chosen for the lettering is green. Green signifies the great outdoors which this industry pulls its supplies from. The sharpness of the letters symbolizes the preciseness involved with wood crafting. A final component of the logo is the year the company was founded, clearly depicting the long history of the brand.

West Virginia University

When it comes to academia, every state is full of institutions that provide continued learning. West Virginia is no different. West Virginia University is in Morgantown and is a public land-grant research university. Founded in 1867, the school has a long history of providing education to students near and far. The school’s mascot is the Mountaineer, and you’ll find this mascot at any home game. Athletics are big on campus, with the school belonging to the NCAA Division 1, and competing in 18 total Division 1 sports. Beyond that, the university is the largest employer across West Virginia, making West Virginia University a crucial part of the state’s economy.

With a school that has a huge athletics presence, it’s important to have a logo that stands out. This logo will fill the stadiums, be on jerseys, and be on fan memorabilia. For West Virginia University, the logo is displayed in the school’s colors, navy blue and yellow. The logo features a “W” and “V” stacked on top of each other with the edges of the letters extended. This logo is referred to as the Flying WV, symbolizing how West Virginia will fly ahead of competitors.
