Famous Vermont LogosFor a state that was founded in 1791, it’s no surprise that Vermont is home to many longstanding companies. What first comes to mind when you think of Vermont are things like stellar leaf-peeping, phenomenal ski mountains, delicious maple syrup, and trip-worthy breweries. Beyond that, Vermont is a nature haven so it’s no shock that countless companies have decided to set up their home base in the Green Mountain State. Three of Vermont’s famous companies and memorable logos are highlighted below, but this is only a sampling of all that has come out of Vermont. Ben & Jerry’s From Cherry Garcia to Chunky Monkey to Phish Food, Ben & Jerry’s has an ice cream flavor to satisfy nearly any craving. Ben & Jerry’s first got its start nearly 50 years ago in Burlington, Vermont. Two friends, Ben Cohen, and Jerry Greenfield established the company after attending an ice cream-making course at Pennsylvania State. After early success, Ben & Jerry’s held a “free cone” day to commemorate their first year of operations which today is still an annual Ben & Jerry’s event. What started as a small idea has grown into a full-fledged ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet conglomerate with 615 locations spread out around the world. Ben & Jerry’s revamped their logo in 1998 and the version you’ll see today is a bold, white wordmark displaying the brand name that sits in a black arc with a yellow background. The yellow line is jagged, resembling a page in a coloring book, representing the youthfulness of the ice cream brand. In addition to the wordmark, a cow is often included in the logo design. This cow is what many Ben & Jerry’s loyalists associate with the brand and represents the essential ingredient to the brand’s ice cream. Burton SnowboardsSince Vermont is home to some of the most loved mountains on the East Coast, it’s no surprise that Vermont is also home to one of the leading snowboard manufacturers, Burton Snowboards. Burton Snowboards was established by Jake Burton Carpenter in 1977 in Londonderry, VT. While the brand is tailored to snowboarders, skiers have also taken a liking to Burton’s outerwear and accessories too. Since its inception, Burton has continued to generate more buzz from partnerships with professional snowboarders and the creation of terrain parks in various ski mountains across the world. Today, Burton is the second-largest snowboard manufacturer in the States, has its products sold in nearly 4,400 stores, and employs more than 950 employees across the world. When it came to designing the Burton Snowboards logo, the brand stayed true to its purpose of the brand. The Burton wordmark is boldly designed in an uppercase font that is evenly spaced out. Above the wordmark sits a snowcapped mountain, representing the mountains Burton products are used on. The logo is simple and ties back to the brand. When you look at the Burton logo there is no doubt what type of company Burton is. King Arthur FlourIf you’re an avid baker, you likely have encountered King Arthur Flour in the baking aisle of your grocery store. King Arthur Flour is a baking staple that has been around since 1790. Even though the company was founded in Boston, the company moved its headquarters to Norwich, Vermont in 1978, which is where the company still is headquartered today. Even though King Arthur started as a company that made flour accessible to the masses, today, the King Arthur Flour brand includes other baking ingredients, mixes, cookbooks, and more. The current logo for King Arthur Flour came out of the Vermont headquarters and features a circle emblem resembling a stamp of approval. The wordmark is displayed on the outer border in a classic, sharp font. In the center of the emblem is a crown, representing the King Arthur brand which was named after the musical King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Also included in the logo design is the date the brand was established, conveying that King Arthur has been a brand we can all trust since 1790.
