Famous Logos From New Jersey

New Jersey sits in both the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions of the US. It’s the most densely populated state and is in the heart of the Northeast megalopolis, right near the border to New York.

As the 20th century closed, New Jersey's megalopolis location helped fuel its rapid growth and suburbanization. At the turn of the century, its economy diversified even more, with a huge boom in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, specialized agriculture, and IT. New Jersey remains a major destination for immigrants and has one of the most ethnically diverse and multicultural populations in the world.

Echoing historical trends, it has increasingly re-urbanized. Today, New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states, consistently ranking as one of the top three by median household income. It has also been, and still is, home to several extremely well-known brands.

Let’s take a look.

Prudential

Prudential Financial is the largest American insurance company. It was established in 1875, and today, it boasts the leading position in national rankings, with subsidiaries in nearly 50 countries globally.

The Prudential Financial logo is often seen as timeless and recognizable as the brand. The symbol has been the Rock of Gibraltar since the 1860s when it was drawn in black and white for the original logo. Below was the inscription “The Prudential Has the Strength of Gibraltar.”

The current Prudential Financial logo, which debuted in 1996, is a rectangle with the wordmark and iconic Rock in a much more minimalistic, modern style. The classic serif typeface, Prudential Roman, was created by Doyald Young in 1996 and remains the wordmark font today.

The Rock emblem sits in a circle and is composed of strong lines with sharp angles. The blue and white color palette evokes a sense of reliability, power, and influence.

Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson is one of the biggest US pharmaceutical and personal care products corporations. It was established in 1886, and today the company, founded by the three Johnson brothers, owns many large, respected subsidiaries. It distributes products globally and is one of the most profitable groups in the world.

The Johnson & Johnson logo is nothing but the iconic wordmark that’s executed in a custom cursive font with a recognizable ampersand. The unique contours of the letters, sleek lines, and warm, inviting shade of red have been used since the dawn of the brand.

Johnson & Johnson has never changed its logo, and since the first days of the company, its founder’s signature has stood as the one and only emblem. Though the first illustrations of the logo featured slightly longer lines and wider loops within the “Js” and ampersand, the style we all know today is nearly identical to the rough versions used back in the 1880s.

Hasbro, Inc.

Hasbro is a US toy manufacturing company established in 1923. The company owns many different brands of toys and tabletop games. It is widely viewed as the world’s biggest company in the toy and game segment.

The brand’s name is a derivative of the company’s original moniker, Hassenfeld Brothers - “Has” and “Bro.” Since 1968, the business has actually gone through several names until it finally landed on Hasbro in 1985. As a result, its visual identity has undergone just as many changes and redesigns as the company.

A version of the current logo began in 1998 and introduced the current “Hasbro” lettering. It showed a smooth custom sans-serif typeface with bold lines and a curved horizontal bar in the letter “H.” An abstract smile arched beneath the inscription in thin white lines. It all sat against a sea-blue square diagonally.

Today, the composition and wordmark of that version are still in use, but the contours and colors have been refined. The square’s sides now slightly arch to the center, and the sea-blue shade has been updated to a more traditional blue with a three-dimensional effect.
