Montana is known for its dramatic landscapes and incredible wildlife. It is also the home to many well-known businesses in industries ranging from tourism and hospitality to manufacturing and technology.

Here are a few of our favorite logos from Montana-based companies.

Kampgrounds of America

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) is based in Billings, Montana, where its first campground was established in 1962. Co-founder Dave Drum decided to set up the campground along the beautiful Yellowstone River to appeal to weary travelers. KOA properties across the country offer basic amenities such as shower facilities, fire pits, and camp stores. The KOAs have become popular destinations for adventurers and campers who'd like a middle ground between "roughing it" and starting in a cozy cabin.

The KOA logo features a bold red X that evokes a teepee or campfire. The shape also reflects the K and A in the name. A black triangle appears below, symbolizing a tent while adding a dynamic feel perfect for an adventure-based brand. Finally, a black circle ties together the design, echoing the O in the name and suggesting the sun and moon under which campers can relax and explore America's wilderness.

Foundant Technologies

Foundant Technologies is a tech development firm that serves philanthropic organizations. Their software solutions include grant management, fund accounting, donor relationship management, and other niche tasks that nonprofits require. Based in Bozeman, Montana, Foundant Technologies has many prestigious nonprofit clients across the nation, including Delta Dental, the Idaho Humanities Council, and BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama.

Foundant's logo is a clever combination of "F" and "T," balanced with pleasant hues and dynamic color-blocking. The soft green, grey-blue, and brick-red palette is both aspirational and practical — ideal for a software company devoted to charitable causes.

Town Pump

Town Pump's name suggests its humble beginnings in heavily rural Montana, as the single gas station and truck stop in a community. However, since its founding in Butte, Montana, in 1953, Town Pump has expanded to include hotels, casinos, delis, laundromats, and convenience stores. In other words, a "Town Pump" is usually a place that truckers, tourists, and locals alike would appreciate.

The logo maintains this classic sense of cross-country adventure. Thanks to a retro hexagonal design with patriotic red and blue hues, the Town Pump is highly recognizable. It evokes a deep sense of Americana that can only be found in roadside amenities sought by weary travelers.

Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply

Although Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply is more of a regional business, we wanted to highlight its awesome logo. Based in Bozeman, Montana, the retail chain targets ranchers, farmers, gardeners, hunters, campers, and all other outdoor enthusiasts. It has a casual brand personality with all the Western vibes you'd expect.

The Murdoch's logo features a faux-wooden oval that evokes old-West signage. The brand name is stylized in all uppercase letters as a horse "gallops" across the design. We like the simple color palette and detailed horse illustration. It ties into Montana's rich equestrian heritage and the sense of adventure shared by the locals.
