Famous Football Logos

In the United States, one of the biggest pastimes for Americans between September-February is watching football. Football Sundays have become a staple in households across the country, and from cheering on your favorite team to playing in a fantasy football team, the fall months are consumed with the sport.

Outside of the United States, football often refers to the sport Americans know as soccer, but in the states; it’s a very different sport. Football is played by throwing a “football” between teammates in hopes of scoring a touchdown or a field goal. While that’s a very abbreviated overview of the game, the logos across various football teams are just as iconic as logos of other sports played across the world. With players from this sport being known in countries where this sport isn’t even played, we can all learn a thing or two about this sport’s logos.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills play in the American Football Conference East division alongside the Jets, Dolphins, and Patriots. Officially formed in 1959, the team’s first season was in 1960, and its home field is Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. While the Bills have never won a Super Bowl to their name, the team has won its Conference Championships; they just haven’t been able to take it all the way. The Bills logo features a buffalo with a red stripe across it.

The red stripe symbolizes the buffalo charging forward, much like a football team does. The logo features a buffalo as an ode to the city where the team plays, Buffalo, New York, and is also a play off the team’s mascot, Billy Buffalo. The colors of the logo are red, white, and blue, which were originally chosen to distinguish itself from other teams. Since then, other teams like the Texans and Patriots have also used this color scheme.

NFL

The league’s logo is representative of where the National Football League exists. The NFL consists of 32 teams separated between two conferences, the American Football Conference, and the National Football Conference. The NFL was founded in Canton, Ohio, in 1920 and is headquartered today in New York City, commissioned by Roger Goodell. The team credited with the most NFL titles is the Green Bay Packers, and today, NFL regular season games are played on Thursday and Monday nights, as well as all day on Sundays. The NFL logo features a shield with the NFL abbreviation.

The color scheme is red, white, and blue, representative of the United States. Also featured on this logo are a series of stars, symbolizing the United States flag, as well as a football representing the sport.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys play in a different division, in the National Football Conference East Division, alongside the 49ers, Eagles, and Packers. Within their division, the Cowboys have won the most titles, with eight titles to the team’s name. The Cowboys played their first season in 1960 and are based out of AT&T Stadium in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Cowboys have made it to the Superbowl 8 times, tying for the greatest number of Super Bowl appearances, and have had a record-setting 20 straight winning seasons. This led the team to be valued at $4 billion in 2015. This valuation gave the team the honor of being the most valuable sports team in the world. When it comes to the team’s logo, the logo is simple, featuring a simple blue star with a white and blue outline. This star symbol features five points that represent the state of Texas’s nickname, The Lone Star State.
