Famous Fishing LogosFor many folks, fishing is less of a pastime or hobby and
more of a lifestyle. It is enjoyed by millions worldwide, and its roots likely
date back to the origins of human beings. But for the fishing enthusiasts of
today, getting out on a body of water involves a significant commitment in time
and money. There are plenty of brands that cater to the various types of
fishing people do, and amongst the fishing community, there are some that are
more trusted and famous than others. Let’s look at some of those renowned
fishing brands and their logos.
Bass Pro Shops While the name refers to the fish type, Bass Pro Shops are the go-to destination for all things outdoors, not just fishing. The first store opened over 50 years ago in Springfield, Missouri, and today there are over 177 locations dotted around the country. They are known for their over-the-top displays, range of equipment, and cult following. The store chain’s logo is a dark green oval with a yellow wooden interior with Bass Pro Shops written in a traditional red font. But the logo’s most recognized feature must be the leaping bass with its mouth wide open like it has just been caught. Some argue it represents a trophy fish stuck proudly on a mantle. Previous versions of the logo retained much of the colors, wording, and of course, the bass. The chain’s founder, Johnny Morris, previously had his name signature on the logo, but it has since been removed.
Shimano When it comes to fishing rods, the name Shimano is synonymous with both quality and affordability. Most fishing enthusiasts will have at least one Shimano rod in their arsenal or had one. A Japanese company, Shimano doesn’t just make fishing rods and equipment. They also manufacture components used in cycling, rowing, and motor vehicles. The company’s current logo, as of 2020, is the name in capital letters in a sea blue color. Under the name and its rather unique font style are three closely packed lines. The first is green, representing the earth, followed by a light blue, meaning light bodies of water, and then a final dark blue bar, representing the ocean depths. It is then implied that Shimano makes gear for all surfaces, even the extremes. Older versions of the logo relied on a standard black typeface and variations of an S design.
Orvis Fly fishing enthusiasts have loved Orvis’ apparel for over 150 years. The company was founded in 1856 in Manchester, Vermont, by Charles F Orvis and remains one of the most relied upon brands to this day. One of their most famous products is the PRO Wader, a full-length insulated and waterproof wading suit that insulates from the cold and keeps the person totally dry. The company’s logo hasn’t changed much in its history, but the font choice and color have remained constant. Its deep, woodsy green is synonymous with the state of Vermont and the areas where fly fishing is popular.
Huk
Pronounced “hook,” this fishing apparel brand is the closest thing enthusiasts will find when it comes to fishing fashion. Huk makes a range of functional clothing designed to protect from the elements, with bright, ocean and fish-themed designs and colorways. Often the materials used are lightweight cotton or a performance blend. The image Huk likes to create for their clothing caters to younger male boat owners and the competitive fishing crowd. Huk’s logo is simple in black or dark blue type, but the letter U is made to look like a hook with a sharp point.
