Connecticut Logos

This small U.S northeast "Constitution State" is famous for many things; its industries, its manufacturing, its history, and containing the submarine capital of the world, the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics located in Groton, CT. Also known for being a popular tourist destination, with Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mohegan Sun, and the beaches that border the state attracting thousands of people each year.

We have gathered here a collection of eye-catching logos designed here on Hatchwise for businesses calling the state of Connecticut home.

Famous Logos from Connecticut

Connecticut is home to many things. Some associate the state with being where Gilmore Girls was set, others associate it with being an easy train ride away from New York City, and others often associate the state with the famed Ivy League school, Yale.

Even though Connecticut is known for all of this (and more), Connecticut is also home to countless companies you may not have even known have ties to this Constitution State. With so many businesses having ties to this New England state, there are lessons we can all learn from these logos coming out of Connecticut.

Pepperidge Farm

When you think of Pepperidge Farm, the first things that often come to mind are goldfish crackers, Milano cookies, cinnamon-raisin swirl bread, and other bakery products. Founded in 1937 by Margaret Rudkin in Fairfield, Connecticut, Margaret started Pepperidge Farm after she started making bread in her home for her son who suffered from allergies and asthma. After selling the bread locally, her business quickly took off. As her business grew, Margaret began to produce her bakery items in Norwalk, Connecticut, later selling Pepperidge Farm to Campbell’s in 1961.

Pepperidge Farm’s logo is a colorful design based on the Grist Mill in Sudbury, Massachusetts. This mill had special ties to Margaret, as it was the mill that supplied her with whole wheat flour for more than ten years. Above the mill sits a red ribbon with the Pepperidge Farm wordmark in an uppercase, bold font reminiscent of Times New Roman. A final noteworthy part of the logo design is the snowy landscape, representing the seasonal New England weather. This logo was personal to Margaret, and the intricacy of it allowed Pepperidge Farm to stand out from competitors.

WWE

While World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE) was founded in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, in 1980, WWE’s headquarters can be found today in Stamford, Connecticut. WWE primarily broadcasts American professional wrestling, but in recent years the network has also broadcasted film, football, and more. WWE has grown to become the largest wrestling entertainment company in the world and consists of two primary wrestling touring groups, Raw and Smackdown. Today, WWE has expanded outside of the United States and is nearly found in one billion homes across the world and is broadcast in 30 different languages.

Stamford is also home to where WWE rolled out its current version of its logo. The logo features a “W” wordmark, made of three “W” letters (where the last “W” represents a sideways “E”). This lettering design symbolizes the three letters of WWE. The wordmark is white, but beneath the emblem is a red diagonal line resembling a flash. Even though this logo has evolved over the years, the logo has consistently incorporated the signature “W” and red underline into the designs.

Bigelow Tea Company

Headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut, is the beloved tea brand Bigelow Tea Company. Ruth C. Bigelow founded the company in 1945 with one tea recipe, a tea she named “Constant Comment,” which was also the first specialty tea created. Today, Bigelow has grown to include more than 50 tea varieties and employs more than 350 people. Bigelow has remained a family-owned business, focused on continuing to blend unique teas that are crafted from the same secret family recipe that Ruth first used in 1945.

Bigelow’s logo features the Bigelow wordmark written in a font like the Old English typography. This font is representative of Britain’s strong ties to tea. Beyond the black wordmark, the logo often is accompanied by a symbol, a teapot. This teapot replaces the “O” in the brand name, reflecting what the brand sells. With this subtle addition to the logo design, anyone that sees the Bigelow logo will know it is referencing a tea company.
