Canada Logos
Canada is home to many things. Besides being home to half of Niagara Falls and countless other picturesque landscapes, some of the best ice hockey players, maple syrup, poutine, and so much more are from the country just north of the States.
Beyond some of our favorite things, Canada has also delivered us so many iconic logos over the years. With brands like Lululemon Athletica, Herschel Supply Co., Sorel, MAC Cosmetics, Cirque du Soleil, and Tim Horton’s all being born out of the U.S.’s friendly northern neighbor, it’s a country that knows one or two things about building lasting brands, and logos.

Famous Canadian LogosMore than just Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Seth Rogan, and Ryan Reynolds are from Canada. Yes, we are fans of them too, but there’s so much more the country has given us! A variety of industries were born out of Canada, showcasing the country’s commitment to diversifying its consumer base and delivering memorable logos. Rather than sticking to one industry, Canada has given us our favorite entertainment, fashion, and restaurant brands – and so much more! With these brands, Canada has also delivered us countless logos we know and love, that we didn’t even know came from the country! We highlight three of these Canadian companies that have an accompanying universally recognized logo below. If you’re interested in learning more about what Canada has done right with their logo design, you can browse some of Hatchwise’s logo contests for companies that are based in Canada!
Lululemon Athletica
If you walk into most workout classes or gyms, you’ll likely see a sea of people adorning the Lululemon logo on their athletic wear. In a matter of twenty-five years, Lululemon has grown its brand to become a household name. Even more importantly, Lululemon has become the standard of excellence when it comes to athleticwear. The company’s logo is recognizable from across the gym. The logo looks like a “squiggly” symbol that is enclosed inside a circle. This “squiggly” symbol though is believed to resemble an abstract “A.” When the brand was deciding on a name, one of the names started with this letter, and given Lululemon’s ties to athleticwear (which also starts with an “A”), the symbol stuck. For the most part, the logo’s circle will usually be printed in the same color of the garment (with only the symbol printed in a different, neutral color). However, the brand’s logo you’ll see at stores, on their website, and in their marketing campaigns is a red circle with a white symbol. IMAXAnother company you may not know got its start in Canada is IMAX. Today, we don’t even think twice about seeing a movie on an IMAX screen, and we can recognize the IMAX branding from across the cinema. IMAX was founded in 1967 in Canada, and today, IMAX still has its headquarters in Mississauga, Canada. IMAX’s logo stands out. The logo is written in blue, bold, capital letters. This font is “big” which ties back to what the company was founded on. IMAX’s theaters project films on a big screen, with surround sound. Just like what the brand delivers, the logo is big and loud, making it nearly impossible to miss. MAC CosmeticsIn the beauty industry, MAC Cosmetics has become a staple. While you can find MAC stores across the globe, the company first got its start back in 1984 in Toronto. Unlike some other logos that have originated out of Canada, MAC’s logo is a simple wordmark that hasn’t changed much over the years. At first glance, you might only notice the three letters of the brand name, accompanied by two dots, but if you look closer, this simple logo has a deeper meaning. The “M” and the “A” of the logo are connected by a line, with the “C” being its own letter. With the “M” and the “A,” the lines are sharp, angular, and precise. When you put on makeup, these are two things MAC customers always aim to mimic with their makeup application. For instance, you want a cat eye to have precise lines with your eyeliner and not a jagged mess. Beyond that, the logo stands out in the beauty industry and is scalable whether the logo is printed on a tube of lipstick, or a storefront.
