Design Competition Brief: Logo, Icons, and Branding Template for Punchlists AI

Overview

Punchlists.ai solves the communication gap between general contractors (GCs) and subcontractors in construction and remodeling, by using AI to interpret SMS messages, automatically update project timelines, manage task completion, and coordinate scheduling. Subcontractors continue using a familiar text messaging type interface, while GCs benefit from centralized oversight and automation without needing to change existing workflows (see glossary at end of document for a description of terms)

Design Goals

We are looking for a design that captures the essence of our start-up. The brand should feel approachable, easy to use, simple, and clean.

The design should be modern and professional for all age groups, from 18 to 60+ age groups while maintaining a blue collar spirit. Approachable, ease of use, simple workflows are all good guiding characteristics for the logo and icon design.

While we  did use AI to create a “test” logo and like the concept (see below), we would prefer more professional design along with some other creative ideas.  While a “hard hat” would be acceptable on the logo we are looking for more creative ideas where we are trying to capture the essence of:

  1. AI performing project management.

  2. Automation scheduling and follow-up using AI on a list of tasks (i.e. punchlist)

  3. A visual that would incorporate that communication (like SMS, phone, etc.) is handled in our platform.

  4. Something that embodies the essence of commercial and residential construction.

Style Guide / Mini Brand Book

- Logo usage guidelines

- Font recommendations

- Iconography styling

- Color palette usage (we’ll provide our brand colors, see below)

Color Palette

Please use our existing brand colors:

A screenshot of a screen

AI-generated content may be incorrect.

We will allow the designer to come up with the best, Primary, Secondary, Accent/Highlight and Background/Base.

Feel free to suggest complementary tones or neutrals for balance, if you do please document the HEX and RGB colors.

Target Audience

Describe your audience briefly. For example:

  • Small to medium business owners in the construction market.

  • Not high tech users, typically.

  • Logo’s, icon’s and color should take into account people from all ages being able to see them from a mobile view all the way up to a desktop view (i.e. people with glasses or poor eye site)

Avoid These

Designs that feel:

- Too generic or overused (e.g., lightbulbs for ideas, a hammer or drill, etc.)

- Overly complex or hard to scale down

- Using construction without some creative process (i.e. don’t just put a hard hat in or a hammer, etc..)

Submission Notes

Please include:

- Mockups in situ (website format is good).  These will be for a PWA

- Brief explanation of design rationale

- Any font licenses or usage notes

Glossary:

Define any specific terms or acronyms.

Punchlist - A punch list is a document prepared during key milestones or near the end of a construction project listing works that do not conform to contract drawings and specifications that the general contractor must correct prior to final payment. The work may include incomplete or incorrect installations or incidental damage to existing finishes, material, and structures. The list is usually made by the owner, architect or designer, or general contractor while they tour and visually inspect the project.

GC (General Contractor or just contractor) - Main target persona of the application. Easiest to think of as a project manager that is coordinating the activities of all other project participants. They drive communications with subcontractors and they communicate updates with clients.

Subcontractors (Sub) - These are the workers that perform the actual tasks of building or remodeling a home. Examples: plumbers, electricians, landscapers, tile workers, concrete workers, etc,.

Clients - These are the customers of the GC. They are generally the person that owns the home or building that is being worked on.

Project - This is the project that is being worked on. For initial, focus is on a remodel job. Example “Bathroom remodel 123 Melody Ln.”

Task - A task is the main unit of work the application is concerned with. A task is really a collection of subtasks, but does not get to as granular a level as a subtask might. For example, “Bathroom Plumbing” might be a task. Inside of that task there could be multiple subtasks that are things like “Install p-trap” or “install sink fixtures”, but those are too specific to create a task. Those are subtasks that need to be communicated about at the task level. So if a sub needs to tell the GC that he is having problems with the bathroom fixtures, he would communicate at the task level under “Bathroom Plumbing”.

Sub-Task - A low level specific task that is a part of the larger “task” construct.

Message - This is defined as an SMS text message communication that will originate from our application that the Sub/Client will then click on a link to come into our application.
