Santa Fe Archery
Describe your company and organization and target audience
Hi! We are starting an archery experience/school in Santa Fe. Part of the Catholic culture in our area is an affection toward Dona Sebastiana, or death. Thinking frequently on death, and remembering that she pursues us with a drawn bow, is an effective way to remind us to live a good, moral, full life now, while we have the chance--it's sort of like that country song, "live like you were dying." We'd like to use the image of Dona Sebastiana as our logo. She is an elegant, skeletal woman usually with grey hair and a long lace mantilla holding a drawn bow.
Our target audience is adventure travelers looking for the unique, and for the opportunity to combine sport and culture and go home and tell their friends they did something awesome--like barebow archery. They'll get to learn archery from a gold-medal winning military veteran and 18th-generation native of the area who can share cultural details.
The design should have the following
An elegant, skeletal woman usually with grey hair and a long lace mantilla holding a bow and arrow. Ideally, for simplicity, the logo would show just the bow and arrow and her facial profile, which would consist mostly of the lace mantilla over her head, and only perhaps the smallest part of her skull peeking from beneath, to which the arrow would be drawn beneath the eye socket.
We want this to be a combination of the very traditional Hispanic devotion with an edgy, feminine, cool vibe. We want it to make up into hats and hoodies that adventure travelers will WANT to own as souvenirs of their trip to Santa Fe and their archery experience.
For references, look up Penitente Death Carts, Dona Sebastiana, and Nuestra Comadre Sebastiana. Those are the traditional images, and we are hoping for an elegant, edgy modern version. The cart is unnecessary. Please do NOT confuse this with Santa Muerte imagery.
This logo will be used for
- Online (Website, facebook etc.)
- Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
- Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
This design should not have this in the entries
Anything referring to Santa Muerte imagery, which includes bastardized references to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Please just stick with the traditional imagery we have outlined. Thanks!
Colors to use in the design
We'll be open to what you think, but we need something that will work on a black background. If the entire logo was black and silver, that would work fine. Thanks!
