Describe your company and organization and target audience
http://www.marinemuseum.ca/
Established in 1972 the Marine Museum of Manitoba provides visitors with a hands on, heritage experience. We tell the story of the development and the operation of marine life on Lake Winnipeg and the Red River circa 1850 to present day. Visitors get to board the actual ships that navigated the waters of the world’s tenth largest lake and will learn about how the Port of Selkirk played a vital role in the development of Manitoba.
Located only 35km from downtown Winnipeg, the Marine Museum of Manitoba is an exciting day-trip destination for nautical enthusiasts and historians alike. All summer long we are ready to set sail for adventure and learning!
Target audience is primarily families with younger children. We also have a number of individuals who have an interest in ships and marine history.
The design should have the following
The title and a nautical icon of some sort. A lighthouse (square framed not rounded), a captain's wheel, an anchor, a porthole, a keel, a prop, a compass rose, a bell, a ship bow, rope or some combination of these images. Design should be light and not overly complicated. Stylistic or artistic interpretations of the nautical theme - ie not direct images of the named icons, would be considered.
This logo will be used for
- Online (Website, facebook etc.)
- Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
- Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
- Signs (including shops, billboards etc.)
This design should not have this in the entries
The logo should not include a sail or mast as these were steam and diesel engine ships.
Colors to use in the design
Currently we don't have an official colour scheme, but our lighthouses have red trim and we've used blue in some of our other marketing materials.
Most of the ships are painted bright white.
The museum is near the Red River (so named for its muddy red water colour).
sticking with blues and reds with white is likely a safe play. Though, thoughtful new combinations would be considered...say a water-inspired blue and green/aqua.
