We are opening a brand new, rather large, brewery establishment near Lake Ontario, NY. It is in the countryside among acres of vineyards and farms. The entire look is rustic with a splash of modern. It is located next to a popular winery, on the local wine trail, and we want it to be intriguing for people to come check out. Live edge is a type of wood where one side or multiple side look like a tree itself. Much of the furniture inside the brewery has live edge wood in it.

The design should have the following

An earthy appeal. Live edge refers to a type of wood so we want that to be portrayed, maybe through the use of a tree in the logo? Not set on something specific because we want outside ideas. One that has been drawn for us contains tree roots that travel upward into a human statue - where the arms form the "v" one live. Like the roots but not so much the statue look.

Live edge or natural edge is a style of furniture where the carpenter incorporates the natural edge of the wood into the design of the piece. Live edge furniture often incorporates gnarly wood, such as Alligator Juniper,mesquite and salvaged wood that could not be used in conventional woodworking. There are special challenges involved in working with this type of wood, and several methods for live edge have developed. Some leave the natural holes and cracks in the wood while other artists fill them with resins.

Live Edge will be reflected in the beer we produce:in the sense that our “edge” in the market is based on the living components used to make the beer -- the hops, malts, yeast and other agents of wild fermentation and flavoring from the local fruits of the region.

Design should fit in with our rural setting and farmhouse style brewing program but without being folksy or pretentious. Design should avoid the common brewery logo themes of hops, grain, brewery factories, bottle caps, bottles, mustaches, kettles, etc. as well as the retro look that is so ubiquitous in the industry. The logo should effectively bridge themes of farmhouse, earthy, natural, simple, comfort while expressing currency, relevance, youth, and edginess. Symbolically live edge is a crooked timber whose uniqueness is artfully celebrated and actively preserved by skilled craftsmen to create a warm & welcoming spirit that gives comfort to our guests.

We would like logo variations to be reproducible in color, gray scale, line art and worked into metal and carved into wood. Logo should be either generally 1:1 aspect or versions made for landscape and portrait use.

This logo will be used for

• Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
• Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
• Signs (including shops, billboards etc.)

This design should not have this in the entries

Neon colors - it should look earthy but unique and eye catching
