Hi SmurfyGirl! Thanks for your entry. I hadn't thought of using a fingerprint - it's an interesting idea. I like the texture and curve of the lines (it has character), but I worry that fingerprints would be seen as more related to digital identity in terms of security than digital identity more generally in terms of branding on the web, in virtual reality, and so on. I'd prefer the colors to be a little darker and richer -- but that's more a note for future reference, since this is something very easy to change.

Thanks for this try too, Phraktal. At least this is helping narrow down the ranges a little bit. I'm not interested in letters in the image, nor am I looking for photographic faces or full body abstracts. Also, I'd like to keep the case as I gave it originally, "Inoa Technologies" rather than "technologies" or "TECHNOLOGIES" In terms of specific critique, the border around the logo makes it more difficult to read. Thanks again!

Hi in45, Thanks for all of your feedback so far, it is really helpful for all of us so we can zero in on exactly what you're looking for. I just wanted to make a suggestion though; right now it's easy enough for the the designers to keep track of your comments in the general comment section at the bottom of the page since there aren't many entries yet. But as the contest continues over the coming days it might start to get a little confusing as to which entries you are referring to. In general, feedback you give on individual entries should be given under that particular logo and any general comments you'd like to make to all designers as a whole should go in the general comment section. To give individual feedback, simply click on the logo you want to critique and leave your comments in that section. Hope this helps!

I don't know if this is the case here, but sometimes people misspell the name on purpose to deter theft.

Thanks for the new submission everybody. Here's a few more guidelines to help as you're working on these logos: 1. I've purchased the rights to use the masks in the sample logo. If you'd like to use the vector in working on the new logo, you can download it here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/filelib/4427427_illustration.eps I wouldn't be interested in a simple cut and paste job (I can do that), but if you want to pull out elements from here, you could do that. 2. I'm not interested in having any letters (an "I") on the graphic. 3. The graphic (whether on top or on the left) should be sufficiently separate from the name of the company that it can be pulled apart and used separately. The name should be able to stand on it's own. 4. Generally speaking, unless I see something fantastic, I'm interested in keeping the same basic color scheme (maybe different highlights if you want) as the sample logo I linked to. Hope these help!

Here are a couple of quotes for inspiration (and hopefully not confusion): In virtual worlds, one is embodied as a graphic animation, so particular tools are required to investigate how this embodiment in virtual space shapes one’s identity, one’s social interactions, and one’s intercultural encounters with others similarly embodied. Poster (1998: 196) reminds us that we should recognise and account for the "mediations within face-to-face communities, the way they are technologies of power that constitute subjects and their ethnic identities through material, symbolic practices." ...the virtual must be understood as an historical articulation of the real, fully as actual as any other such articulation, but one connected specifically with computer-mediated communication technologies. He argues that the actual is increasingly becoming virtualised and this can be a positive force for social change.

Gozzi, I apologize for this -- the link should be: http://s3.amazonaws.com/filelib/4427427_illustration.eps

Thanks everybody for all the submissions. Let me ask everyone not to do any more designs with the full masks. I'm looking for a creative concept related to personal identity and the web that may or may not use elements from the masks I linked to. Please see my comments throughout for lots more info and to get a better sense of what I'm looking for. Many thanks!

Hi all, We're coming close to the end of this contest and I'm still having a hard time finding the right image. Part of this, I know, is my problem -- the concepts are not sufficiently formed in my head -- but I'm really looking for your ideas to make this work! I think there are some very strong beginnings here. I have a couple other ideas -- for example, a HONU design (as at http://honu.inoatech.com) or something else... But my hope is that you'll read through my previous comments and give it another creative shot before the time's up. Although I can only pick one winner, I definitely appreciate the time that each of you has put in.

Hi all, Thanks for all your submissions! Please give me a little time to work through them and pick the one that is the best fit for the business. There are a number of strong contenders. I'll get back to you soon.

Thanks all for your work. I've decided on the logo to use for the moment. My other favorites were by jkapenga, ginalin, and logomotives. Ultimately, it can down to selecting something for a startup business identity, and I find myself gravitating towards something more conservative right now. It seems that brieric took some inspiration from logomotives design, but changed it substantially. I'm not sure he realized it, but somehow it fit the sense of place, of situatedness here on my island -- it makes me think of the volcanos Mauna Kea, Hualalia, and Mauna Loa here.
