Describe your company and organization and target audience

Looking for a logo design for a small new media production and game (not video) publishing company called 'Blurtnik Games'. We're initially focusing on board and tabletop role-playing game content. At launch we'll be producing a few podcasts and a YouTube channel showcasing our in-house design / development process for a few projects, as well as creating content aimed at establishing our brand with those broadly interested in the board / tabletop role-playing games hobby. Longer term, we intend to publish our games in both physical and digital mediums while expanding on the industries we serve.

We are expressly not a video game company, and wish to avoid any visual reference to common themes / tropes of that industry (e.g. no game controllers). We desire a logo that is fun / playful while still being professional.

Our clients and customers enjoy playing and engaging with digital content about a wide range of board and tabletop role-playing games. Our logo needs to grab attention on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube while also being at home on the spine of a physical book or game box in someone's home library.

We are also actively engaged with IP owners looking for a company to partner with in developing games (board, card, tabletop roleplaying) related to their properties.

Our company's name is taken from combining ‘blurt’ - which means to say (something) suddenly and without careful consideration and the suffix ‘-nik’ - which means a person associated with a specified thing or quality. It is, purposefully, evocative of the term ‘beatnik’ which refers to a person who participated in a social movement of the 1950s and early 1960s, in the USA, which stressed artistic self-expression and the rejection of the mores of conventional society broadly.

The design should have the following

A visual icon or 'character' element that can be used separately when the full text of the logo would not be appropriate. Examples of possible uses include, circular avatar images for YouTube, Twitch, Discord, etc..., on the pine of a physically published book, etc...).

Must have a clean, relatable, and fun style without being overly stodgy or corporate, yet should still be professional enough to be taken seriously.

While not a firm direction or a 'should' have, necessarily, we want to mention the idea of an abstracted mouth "blurting something out" as a possible bit of inspiration for the icon. We are not interested in anything that is too realistic, however.

We are very interested in exploring various typeface options and how we use capitalization in the logo. We are open to all lower case, all caps, some caps and lowercase, etc in the logo design.

This logo will be used for

  • Online (Website, facebook etc.)
  • Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
  • Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)

This design should not have this in the entries

We are not a video game company. So, no visual references to the tropes of that industry (E.g. no console game controllers). We also cater to a wide range of game and other interests, so we are trying to steer clear of any very specific game iconography (E.g. no polyhedral dice, dragons, chess pieces, etc).

What style of logo would you like?

Colors to use in the design

Black, white, greys, blues, not a fan of gradients.
