With all due respect, kate, I'm not going to enter this competition because you sound like you don't know what you want, and I fear my time would be wasted. You're so indecisive that you're willing to let anonymous logo designers decide what the name of your shop is for you. Perhaps you should consider hiring some sort of marketing consultant to help you sort out the basics, like the name of your business, before you buy a logo.

Logoforge is somewhat correct Kate, although you have given quite a few options. It's tough thinking about which one you would prefer, it can lead to too many options. On the other hand is good because the creative designers are open to more options in their design. So I will give it a shot! =)

Hi Logoforge, No disrespect taken. This is not a simple name and gavel project. That's why I started it prepaid at $250 and inquired about upping it should it be necessary to stay fair to the designers involved. I want fresh, exciting ideas. My ideas are old and tired. The name is not changing. (Cute comment re marketing consultants though.) Adding & Gallery to the name Auctions Neapolitan is not renaming the business, the name has issues and we know it. Designers are a creative group, if someone has a good suggestion, I'm open. Kate

To all.... Thank you for submitting. You are working hard and it is appreciated. I haven't commented or ranked any of the submissions yet because I've been waiting to see if anyone breaks out. Unfortunately, there are common problems. Too traditionally antiquey and many with cookie cutter fonts. Also, the word Auction stands out on all but the two Dovetails submissions. One of our big problems is letting people who don't like auctions or have been burned by them know that there is a gallery with fixed price for them too. The auction and gallery have to balance or draw the eye & Gallery too. Also, we are not your grandmothers antique store. We don't want to alienate our 40+ clients, but we do want to draw in younger, sophisticated people with an artistic eye. If you were on a mission to revamp your home with good quality unusual items at a price that you couldn't find anywhere else, what would help draw you in? If you stumbled across our pages on the web, what would make you take a closer look? Make that logo. Hope this helps, Kathleen

Hi, I think the issue is that your name is Auctions Neapolitan and most designers will focus on that as the main wording and will usually make that larger. Would you like the name to be Neapolitan Auctions and Galley which might help? Not sure if that is what you had mind or in other words do you want the focus to be on the word Neapolitan? Thanks, Faith

Hi Faith, Unfortunately, we can't make it Neapolitan Auctions that affects the telephone listings, alphabetical rankings in organizations etc. Would any of the following work visually? Auctions and Neapolitan balanced with a very different treatment for the & Gallery, or treat the three words similarly but on a kind of layered diagonal, heck... what about something running vertically? or the & Gallery placed somehow unexpectedly? Kate

Hi Kate, Thanks, that helps give some options! Faith

I haven't rated yet because I am not sure what the ratings mean to the designers. Would someone explain a little for me? Is it based on how close we are to what I'd like to see? Is is a comment on work product? Kate

Basically, the more stars means the closest to what you are looking for, then it's a good idea to comment to the designer about what is wrong with their design, if their design is around 3-4. It not only helps that designer but it helps all designers to know which path they should travel. Hope this helps! =)

So at this point if I rated 3 on the designs that I think have some potential, would that be an insult? Kate

Hylith Creative
Well I usually take it like this. 1 is not even close, 2 is maybe you like a little something about the design, 3 means it has potential, 4 means very close just fix a little something, 5 means they got the layout maybe try color variations.. something like that.

It's not insulting, just means it's good but your looking for a little something more or a little different. =)

Thank you all for submitting..... I've just been in contact with the admin here and we are raising the prize and extending. Some of you have worked very hard and I'm sure you will be disappointed that a decision has not been reached. But.. we are just not there yet. There are some designs that may work with revisions and I will post more comments. thanks Kate

Kate, Of course it would be a big help if you narrowed down the field a little and really got brutal with what you like and dislike. Maybe take your top 5 (if any are close), and thoroughly break them down. My questions are: 1. Have you decided for sure that it is "Auctions Neopolitain & Gallery" or "Dovetails"? 2. If AN&G, do you want to give equal weight to everything or you could rank the words for importance?

Hi Ribman, Thanks for the suggestions. We are going with Auctions Neapolitan & Gallery. The weight can be equal to all three, or equal to Auctions & Gallery with Neapolitan a little bigger. I will also get brutal with ranking and more frank in comments. I've been holding back because I don't want to offend, but that approach isn't helping direct anyone. So.....A rank of 1 or 2 does not mean I don't appreciate the work, it is that the design absolutely not what we are looking for or the designer didn't read through our requests and comments about keeping Gallery as prominent as Auctions. Thanks again, Kathleen

Kathleen, As long as you are not a jerk, don't worry about putting a 1 or 2. (And from you past comments, you don't seem to be a jerk.) :-) If you rate a design a 1 or 2, don't spend too much time (or any time) writing about it to make the designer feel better. We are all professionals and if we are off the mark, we will get over it. We have all had our share of 1s. We all want you to have the best logo -- so focusing on deeply critiquing the designs that you feel are closest to the mark, I feel, is the best expenditure of your time.

well... I've just rated a bunch more. It seems that the sophisticated designs and the really innovative designs are the most appealing to me. I like when the logo is incorporated into the name as opposed to sitting on top of the name too, with few exceptions. I also like some of the very linear designs. (hard to explain, but will try and point it out when I see another good one.) Frames, gavels, vases, crayon or candy colors, antiquey scrolls in the corner or on frames, loopy leaves, simple computer fonts with basic logos .... no. My eye is drawn to black backgrounds, so I would like to request a submission on black to be done on a light background too. Elegant, wealth, professional, trendy. Words for today. Brain is fried right now, so will try and explain more tomorrow or with future submissions. If the design is just totally out of what we are searching for, I'll probably give it a one or two and move on. Multiple submissions that are out of it, most likely will not all be rated. again, I do appreciate the work from everyone. Kate
