Describe your company and organization and target audience

My company is a solo law practice focusing on trademarks, copyrights and domain name disputes. I'm a one-woman shop and located on the coast of NC. That said, my practice is federal so my target audience is nationwide. My target client is a small to medium-size business owner (mostly trademark clients) looking to trademark their company name or logo. In the past my clients have ranged from luggage and apparel companies, restaurants, media companies and other providers of consumer goods.

I like the idea of having a slight nautical theme to my site (it's currently being built), but don't want to regionalize myself too much and possibly deter nationwide clients. My website will be clean and modern with various shades of blues and greys (and black and white).

The design should have the following

I like the idea of my company name on one line with the services (trademark | copyright | domain name disputes) listed below. I like the practice areas separated either by vertical lines or something else modern (small solid squares, etc.). I also like the services in lowercase font. I like the idea of "IP" in the company name having some sort of accentuation (bold/darker color/etc.). I like the idea of the company name and services being separated by a horizontal line.

To the left I was thinking of either a ship wheel or lighthouse design (leaning toward the ship wheel). The home page will have a tagline saying "Navigating your way to IP protection), so the wheel or lighthouse would tie into that. Other ideas I had where some design element incorporating my initials (ABM) or a geometric design of some sort.

I also like the emblem example below, which a small ship wheel at the top.

This logo will be used for

  • Online (Website, facebook etc.)
  • Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)

This design should not have this in the entries

Nothing too "beachy." I do like nautical but no fish, pelicans, etc. I also dislike the colors red, orange, yellow and purple.

What style of logo would you like?

Colors to use in the design

I'd like to use various shades of blue (navy, medium greyish blue, lighter blue), black and white. For images with a ship wheel I think brown or black may look good for the wheel.

Briefly describe your contest

Help me design a logo for my new trademark law firm! Modern, clean and maybe a bit nautical (but not naughty!). Thanks for your help with my venture!
