Famous Logos From Georgia

In 1788, Georgia became the fourth state to ratify the US Constitution, and following the Civil War, it was the last state to be restored to the Union in 1870. 

In the late 19th-century post-Reconstruction era, Georgia's economy changed when a group of prominent politicians, businessmen, and journalists, led by Henry W. Grady, proclaimed the "New South" philosophy. The state has seen several ups and downs throughout its history, and during the mid-20th century, several Georgians, most notably Martin Luther King Jr., helped to lead the significant Civil Rights Movement.

Since then, many in the state have worked to bring it into the modern era. Atlanta was chosen as the host of the 1996 Summer Olympics on the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games. Then, from 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the country’s top 100 fastest-growing. 

For much of its history, agribusiness has been Georgia's leading industry, with over $74 billion in economic impact annually. However, in recent years, advanced manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and food processing industries accounted for roughly 75% of new jobs and 84% of investments.

Let’s take a look at the logos of the top three companies from Georgia that represent those industries. 

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines was originally called Huff Daland Dusters and specialized in the manufacture and maintenance of military aircraft. They were also often used for agricultural pest control. In fact, during the national crisis of the 1930s, this service saved the company from bankruptcy when passenger travel was at an all-time low. After overcoming difficult times, Delta began to develop aviation in all areas, providing a growing number of services.

In 1975, Delta Air Express, a cargo service that would become a founding member of the SwissCargo alliance, brought in even more opportunity for the brand, and in the late 1980s, it worked on developing its markets in Europe and Asia, which would go on to fuel the founding of the largest international alliance, SkyTeam.

Currently, Delta is among the top three largest airlines globally in terms of the number of destinations (1st), fleet size (2nd), passenger traffic (3rd), and the number of passengers carried (2nd).

Delta has gone through over 20 different logos since its founding in 1928. Many have had one chief element in common - the triangle shape inspired by the name of the company, which was in turn inspired by the Greek letter “Delta,” the Mississippi Delta, and the shape of a jet flying overhead.

Its main element, a triangle with the addition of the company name, still acts as the logotype used today. Since 2007, the logo has contained a dark red triangle and an iconic Delta wordmark on the right side. Previously, it also had the words “Air Lines”, but this has since been removed to simplify the icon. The primary colors of blue and red have also been with the company for decades.

The Coca-Cola Company

Coca-Cola is a soft drink brand that debuted in 1886. The original recipe is stated to be the creation of optometrist and pharmacist John Stith Pemberton. However, The Coca-Cola Company founder was businessman Asa Griggs Candler, who purchased the rights to the trademark in 1888. He began the mass production of the beverage, which made it world-famous.

All the manufacturer’s logos that have been used show the wordmark “Coca-Cola” as the only feature of the design. Accountant Frank Robinson created the name based on the original product’s ingredients- coca bush leaves and cola nuts. John Pemberton also entrusted him with branding issues. Robinson himself has mastered calligraphy and drew the words Coca-Cola in beautiful, curly letters. The trademark he suggested is still used and has stood the test of time.

Coca-Cola’s famous emblem, invented a year after the drink was created, has only been slightly updated over time. Modern designers have tweaked the font and updated the slant and color. However, the edits haven’t departed from the original concept- the curly lettering in calligraphy handwriting. The coloring has changed from black and white to a striking red, and since that change, it’s remained untouched.

The Coca-Cola logo has become even more famous thanks to the brand's impressive Christmas advertising. It is often associated with the holidays, a good mood, and spreading happiness. The red letters look like creative ribbons, representing the fullness of life and its beauty.

Home Depot

The Home Depot is the largest home improvement retailer in the US. The store focuses on building products, tools, and home decor products. The first store was founded in 1978 in Marietta, Georgia, by Bernard Marcus, Arthur Blank, Ron Brill, Pat Farrah, and Kenneth Langone. 

Now, the chain is an extensive structure with a legal headquarters in Atlanta and retail locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In fact, many big-box stores are subsidiaries of the company. The overarching brand also owns The Home Depot Pro, formerly Interline Brands, which has 70 distribution centers nationwide.

Home Depot has become a widely-branched, well-thought-out business, which not only boasts retail outlets but several brands, home delivery logistics organizations, warehouses, and 90 distribution centers as well. There are over two thousand stores, and the corporate emblem is now a very recognizable icon throughout the nation. 

And that logo has barely changed since it arrived in 1978.

The corporate identity of Home Depot is exceptionally simple, both in form and content. The brand has worked hard to emphasize these values – their products make home repair and renovation easy and simple. 

An orange square has been the basis of the symbol since its introduction. It’s large enough to fit the full name of the retail chain, The Home Depot, and of the three versions of its logo that the brand has had, the only significant difference is the choice of color. While they’ve all been warm shades, the current logo is a striking pumpkin orange.
