Client Brief:
Who we are:
We are an existing restaurant opening our second location. We are branching out and opening a brewery in conjunction with our new place. We are struggling to choose a name that blends these ventures in a concise and catchy way.
What we need written:
A name for a restaurant and brew pub. Casual atmosphere. Family friendly. Timber frame construction. Family owned and operated. American style menu. We'd also like a .com domain name to coordinate with business name for a website.
This is very important:
Must appeal to a broad demographic. And highlight both the restaurant and brewery aspects. Lend itself to an interesting logo design and can be branched off to develop beer names.
We do not want this in the entries::
Must be family friendly. Nothing overtly "bar" ish or obscene
Design Brief completed by the contest holder:
Brief description of what your company/product/website does
How do you wish to come across to you customers as a brand?
Keywords associated with your brand:
Do you need a domain name to be available to go with the suggested brand?
Does the domain name need to match the suggested brand exactly?
Does the domain name need to have a particular extension (like .com) and can numbers or hyphens be included?
Please provide as much info as possible in what you are looking for in this brand:
Are there any brands that you like?

Winner Selected! Congratulations to (daximus)
Entry: Amber Barrel -- optional "the" but the .com is available either way. Amber is a beautiful color (some wood is amber-colored), a revered natural substance and a beer variety and color. Okay, we all know today that beer is brewed in humongous steel vats, but here we honor the romance and craftsmanship of Medieval times when ales and mead matured in barrels.
Entry: Stout and Slender; variation Stout 'n Slender; both available, latter without the apostrophe of course. This euphonic name evokes a British pub name and could even be followed by "tavern." Stout, for it's heaviness, which we get in an ale and big beef entree. Slender, for lighter brews and fare. Something for everyone!
Entry: Welshman's Tavern -- The Welsh have a singular brewing culture and tradition, to be sure, and this name evokes that Old World brewing sensibility especially when paired with "tavern," which evokes visions of simple and hearty fare. Tavern seems to bring forth a sense of joviality, community, casual fun with warm, friendly people.
Entry: French Creek Tavern -- why not celebrate one of the most special and treasured features of the regional community? French Creek is one of the most biologically rich and diverse rivers east of the Mississippi, according to Wikipedia. It presents numerous opportunities for naming food and beverage offerings with associations from history, botany, river ecology, geography, etc. Tavern here evokes a warm, welcoming and neighborhood ambiance with a casual, bistro menu. Available as .com.
Entry: The Otter’s Pocketbook – “Huh? What’s that?” “Oh, it’s this great bistro in Meadville.” Unexpected, uh-huh. Intriguing? Yep. Has a story behind it? Yep. The river otter is trying to make a comeback on the French Creek, with a few unconfirmed sightings over the past several years. A pocketbook is one of the freshwater mussel species found in the watershed and mussels are a core component of the otter’s diet. This has lots of marketing legs for naming food and beverage offerings and it celebrates (and educates about) the regional natural environment and ostensibly provides an outlet for community charity and outreach through promotional and fundraising in support of Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and other similar organizations (benefit parties when launching a new label?) This is presented in the Old World tradition of tavern-naming! It has great implications for interior design, logo and menu design, illustrated character development (appeals to kids). PLUS – who doesn’t LOVE otters? Of course, this unusual name is available and we think it will become affectionately known to regulars as “The Otter.”
Entry: The Three Bears/The Three Bears Brewery and Restaurant (Three Bear Beer, Papa Bear Porter, Mama Bear Beer/lager, Baby Bear Just Right Ale, Goldilocks Golden Ale, Nut Brown Bear, Grizzly Stout, Bear Claw Hefeweizen, Bear Necessity Wheat Beer, Big Bear Bock, Honeybear Mead, Someone's Been Drinking My Oatmeal Stout, Hibernation Hop/Bock, Skinny Bear Lite, etc)
Entry: You have a fascinating history in the lumber industry. Since you said your establishment had timber construction, this inspired my research. I came up with the name "Bark Peelers Bistro & Brewery"- The Bark Peelers Festival took place in the lumber camps with good food, song, drinks, etc. to celebrate the end of a hard day's work. There are so many names associated with this industry that would make for great beer names. Example: Pig's Ear Beer- Pig's ear was their slang for cheap saloons.

Thank you for the submissions thus far! We are feeling like something a little more fun or modern. Something unique and catchy. Keep 'em coming!

We're thinking something short and sweet. Maybe a play on words with something that has to do with brewing. Maybe something earthy having to do with wood or water. Maybe something completely off the wall that doesn't have to do with anything but that customers will be sure to remember.
