Describe your company and organization and target audience

We collect, clean, sort, and bundle recyclables by hand.
Target Audience: Residents and businesses of Costa Rica

Problem: Recycling is disorganized and dirty. Plastics for example are commingled and need to be cleaned, separated, and sorted into more than 20 categories and colors to be recycled. If we make recyclables difficult to sort and clean, recycling companies have little financial incentive to recycle them. This forces municipalities to pay, the lowest price possible, for disposing of recyclables – think illegal dumping in our oceans and elsewhere. We think recyclables need to be purchased by recyclers and that means we need to increase the value of the recyclables by cleaning and sorting them better.

Solution: People power from the point of creation to the recycling plant. People are the most efficient means for cleaning and sorting recyclables. We collect, clean, sort, and bundle recyclables by hand and you can help. The point of recyclable waste creation happens when the product packaging is opened and consumed or used. Collaboratively consumers can help, like a flash mob, by going one small step further with cleaning and separating materials from the packaging and containers. By tracking the quality of recyclables from each creator we can measure our success at working together to improve the value of recyclables.

How you help:
1. rinse or clean all recyclables
2. keep food and wood out of recycling
3. separate bottle caps and rings from bottles
4. separate loose plastic labels from plastic bottles
5. separate plastic nozzles from spray cans and bottles

The design should have the following

Rectangular (landscape) in shape and between the aspect ratios of 2:1 and 3:1.
Legible on a business card from 5 feet away.
High contrast.
We need 2 versions of the logo, in English and Spanish if possible.

This logo will be used for

• Online (Website, facebook etc.)
• Print (business cards, letterheads, brochures etc.)
• Merchandise (mugs, t-shirts etc.)
• Signs (including shops, billboards etc.)
• Television/screen

This design should not have this in the entries
