Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the more commonly asked questions we get. If you have a question that is not answered here please ask us using the contact form.
What are the Rules of a Design Contest / Writing Project?

Please see the following sections: Community Guidelines, Creative Guidelines, Contest Holder Guidelines.

How Long Does a Contest/Project Run For?

Contests run for 10 days, although the Contest Holder can pick a winner and end the contest at any time.

Can a Contest Holder end a contest early?

Yes, a contest holder can pick a winner and end the contest at any time.

Does a Contest Holder have to pick a winner?

The contest holder is strongly advised to pick a winner and award the prize for their contest, but if none of the submitted logos is what they are looking for they do not have to pick a winner long as they provide each entry with a rating and feedback as to why they did not pick it.

The exception to this is if the contest holder has prepaid the prize. If the contest holder prepays the prize they MUST select a winner, and that winner is guaranteed payment of the prize. Contest holders are required to prepay the prize for writing projects and Brandstorming Sessions.

Do you send payment in any way other than PayPal?

No. At the moment you must have a PayPal account to receive prize payment.

I'm a US Citizen, do I get taxed on money I earn through Hatchwise?

Yes. We collect your social security number when you sign up as we issue a 1099 to any US Citizen earning more than $600 in a calendar year. You will need to report it as income and pay any applicable taxes when you file your taxes.

What format do I need to design logos in to submit entries?

The format you need to design logos in depends on the Contest Holder, usually it needs to be provided in a Vector Format but bitmap is sometimes okay as well.

What format is the winning entry delivered in?

The winning entry (for graphic design entries) is delivered in the following formats:

The original, layered source file for the winning logo, with all fonts converted to shapes, as well as versions of the logo in the following formats: .jpg, .gif, .png, .tiff, eps and .pdf.

Writing projects require the winning entry to be uploaded as a text file.
